Hi! I’m Izzy, a second-year history student and I would love to be your President!

If elected, I would aim to achieve:

  1. An increase in social activity by running more regular meet-ups, including both pub-crawls and non-drinking events. I would also ensure that society activity continues into the third term, providing much needed balance during exam season!
  2. Opportunities to explore a more diverse range of careers. I would continue to run the career panels and round-tables provided this year, but include a wider range of potential jobs (in particular, creative industries like journalism, media, film and publishing). Given how flexible History degrees are, hopefully these events will be useful to those unsure about their path after uni!
  3. More trips to historical sites within and around London. Part of my plan to increase the visibility of the History Society is to organise low-cost trips, thereby making the most of living in such a vibrant city.

I believe that I would bring a unique angle to the role, as I plan to work in a creative industry after uni and have previously won a competition for historical creative writing. My experience this year volunteering at Kenwood House in Hampstead has also been invaluable, as I’ve learnt more about the heritage industry and working in a team. Being on the History Society committee would be a full commitment and I would work hard to ensure that there is more engagement with the society next year. Thank you for reading! :)

I am standing to be History Society president to MAKE HISTORY HOT AGAIN! History may be the study of the past and old people but History Society is new, fun and young so vote for me to keep it that way.

As a fellow lover of history, I was left underwhelmed by the lack of History Society events on offer this year. As president, my main priority will be to ensure more events that are innovative, diverse in nature and appeal to a wider range of students take place, for instance, a murder mystery night or a historical games night.

Like many of you, I'm also pursuing a career outside of history, which can feel isolating. As president, I will work to ensure opportunities are created to encourage like-minded individuals to make connections based on the careers they aspire to get into, such as through hosting more social events (that are actually fun so you don't have to stand around awkwardly), fostering a more inclusive environment.

In terms of experience, I led three societies during my time at sixth form, and each week we delivered new ways to engage students on interesting matters, like hosting debates and art workshops. I'm also incredibly creative and have no shortage of exciting things to introduce to the society, so you'll never be bored. I also never shy away from opportunities to lead, but I am very open-minded and welcome any ideas people would love to see implemented.

If you don't know what to do, just say 'That's hot' and vote for me to help MAKE HISTORY HOT

Charlotte Kellagher

I want to get properly involved with the History Society in my last year at UCL! I’ve just done a year abroad so it would be really nice to reconnect with the UCL community. Also, would look lovely on the ol’ CV.
