I am standing because I was an active member of the Durham University Hill Walking Society during my undergraduate degree. I hope to be involved with the UCL hiking club whilst I complete my part-time masters.
I have hiked in the Lake District, the Yorshire Dales, Hadrian's Wall and Lancashire.
I am passionate about student welfare, particularly as a mature student who is familiar with the student experience.
I am also happy to participate in outreach on behalf of the society.
Dear Fellow Hikers,
I am excited to announce my candidacy for the position of Welfare & Outreach Officer within our esteemed UCL Hiking Club. This club has greatly enriched my life, offering everything from challenging muddy treks to unforgettable encounters with wildlife, and from scaling lofty peaks to experiencing stunning vistas. My personal achievements include completing a challenging 800 km trek on the Camino de Santiago in Spain within 28 days, and summiting Kilimanjaro (5,895m) during the reading week this February.
However, above all these awe-inspiring experiences, it's the 'people' who have made this journey truly unforgettable. The camaraderie and diverse perspectives within our club have enriched my experience immensely, from sharing tales of adventure to engaging in heartfelt chats.
If elected, I am committed to invigorating our club’s community interactions and promoting a supportive environment focused on both mental and physical wellbeing. As for outreach, I have exciting plans for creating inclusive events that can involve members from other clubs, with the aim of strengthening existing relationships and establishing alliances with different universities.
I look forward to sharing more detailed plans and ideas, and I am eager to bring a fresh wave of enthusiasm into our beloved club!
Onward,
Jimmy
Hi, I'm E'Jane and I'd like to be your next Welfare & Outreach officer :)
Since being with the Hiking Club in 2022, I've come to see an integral part of our community is the safety and well-being of each member, physically and mentally. In this role, I hope to further champion the care, openness and communication that underlie our community. I've been a Residence Advisor in the past and worked with EDI initiatives, to promote belonging, learning and cross-cultural awareness. These experiences will greatly aid me here.
Bringing people together is, for me, a highlight of our club. While we've had many collaborations over the years, I also hope to connect us with new societies and clubs (and keep some of our favourites going!). With our wide UCL network, and the hikers beyond, I aim to bring more of these opportunities to our community.
