Candidates

Gowan Whalley

I would like to nominate myself for the role of president of the Dancing Le Rock society. As a disclaimer, this is currently only guaranteed over the summer. I am coming into my final year of my PhD, and also intend to partake in an internship during the autumn term, so cannot commit at this stage to being present for the full academic year. As such, I need a committed candidate for the position of vice president. In the event of me securing an internship and the lack of a committed candidate for the vice president position by autumn term, I will have to step down and open the role of president for reelection.

I have been an active member of UCL Dancing Le Rock for the last three years, helping to organise events like the Christmas and Summer Parties, running sessions and keeping the society going over the summer. The latter of these even involved organising smaller events for people still in London outside term-time, such as a Le Rock picnic in Regents Park, followed by swing dancing in the NED.

I have always strived to make the society feel as friendly and inclusive as possible, trying to make sure people don’t feel lost or left out and that everyone has a chance to dance during the classes if they want to. I feel that my past involvements show both my suitability for the role of president and commitment to the society, and I look forward to continuing keeping Dancing Le Rock as the enjoyable, relaxed dance society that it is for our members this coming year.

Thank you for reading,

Gowan
