Summary of proposed changes
Several edits have been proposed to the constitution, the most significant of which are:
- Addition of crew allocation policy and training allocation policy
- Addition of the Studio Theatre Officer role
- Changing the Bloomsbury Theatre Manager to Bloomsbury Theatre Officer
- Changing the Garage Theatre Manager to Roaming Garage Theatre Officer
Please see more details below.
Changes to roles:
Treasurer
Will now ‘stand in for the President’ where they are unavailable. This was previously the responsibility of the Vice President but has been updated to better reflect Union policy.
Other minor changes to remove outdated references.
Welfare Officer
Their duty to ‘represent the interests of society members’ now falls to all committee members.
No longer required to have their contact details displayed on the society Union webpage. We feel that this should be at the discretion of the post-holder each year and should not be mandated in the constitution.
Vice President
No longer required to ‘stand in for the President’ where they are unavailable. This is now the responsibility of the treasurer to better reflect Union policy.
Other minor changes to remove outdated references.
Bloomsbury Theatre Manager
Now called the Bloomsbury Theatre Officer.
Added further clarification to the scope of this role.
Studio Theatre Officer
New role to manage productions in the Bloomsbury Studio (formerly the responsibility of the Garage Theatre Manager).
Garage Theatre Manager
Now called the Roaming Garage Theatre Officer.
Changes to all roles:
All committee members will represent the interests of society members and ensure that society members are fairly represented in inter-society events. (This was previously only the responsibility of the Welfare Officer).
All committee members have a wider responsibility within the society to lead by example and demonstrate good professional practice, behaviour and attitudes whilst present as Stage Crew members.
Policies:
Added a new section to the constitution that outlines policies the society shall abide by.
Defined two new policies: the Crew Allocation Policy and the Training Allocation Policy. Also defined associated processes for each policy.
These are designed to ensure crews and training places are allocated fairly and transparently.
Please read the proposed constitution for full details of the new policies.
Changes to Core Activity:
Added the Bloomsbury Studio to 4.3.1. alongside the Bloomsbury Theatre
Changes to Additional Activity:
Removed that ‘the Garage Theatre Manager shall be responsible for the maintenance and preparations for performances and other activities in the UCL ‘Roaming’ Garage Theatre Workshop’ as the remit of the Roaming Garage Theatre Officer is defined in section 3.7.
Other changes:
References to Production Managers have been altered as the remit of this crew role now falls to the Company Stage Manager.
