I hope to create social spaces for Igbtq+ students to come together and create supportive networks with their peers. I want to support the LGBTQ+ network in their events and helping to make it a space where students of all different identities can come together and feel a sense of community with others.
As someone who was one of the few queer young people in my school I understand the importance of having a safe space to come to with fellow peers. I also helped organising social events at my secondary school and college for students such as a production crew social space for the school play. I am a kind and caring individual who is always looking for ways to improve student experiences.
I believe I would make a good social secretary as I am dedicated to creating fun safe spaces for students to build a sense of community and belonging with eachother. I promise to be dedicated to improving social networks and making sure that students have positive fulfilling experiences during their time here.
If elected, I want to make the LGBTQIA+ Network feel like a genuine community rather than simply a network students are aware of. My main priority would be creating more regular and varied social opportunities where LGBTQIA+ students can, make friends and feel comfortable being themselves. I would like to organise a mixture of events, from bigger socials and nights out to relaxed meet-ups. I would also make an effort to ensure that social events are not all centred around drinking or nightlife, so that there are genuinely different ways for students to get involved.
Having ran for LGBTQIA+ representative last year I have researched exactly what UCL students want from the LGBTQIA+ network. I served as LGBTQIA+ Representative for UCL Gender and Feminism Society and have written for the UCL Law Journal about erasure of Pride and transphobia within the LGBTQIA+ community. Through my work as a social media manager, I have experience creating engaging content and increasing engagement, which I would use to make the Network’s events more visible and exciting.
Students should vote for me because I want to make the LGBTQIA+ Network somewhere people genuinely want to be. I already have experience representing LGBTQIA+ students, but I also understand that a strong community needs more than just representation, but a sense of belonging. I would bring new ideas for socials, promote events effectively and make sure there are options for different personalities, interests and comfort levels.
