Jeremiah Ziyang Wang (He/Him/His)
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

If elected, I aim to make career support central to my agenda. I would launch a guest speaker series where professionals from banking, law, tech and beyond share what it’s like being LGBTQ+ at work and how to navigate microaggressions and stereotypes, followed by Q&As and panel discussions. I would also set up a mentorship program pairing students with LGBTQ+ professionals by career interest, and organize an inclusivity careers fair where supportive employers can showcase opportunities available to our students. Alongside the career initiatives, I’d help drive the Network’s wider campaigns.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I bring extensive experience in LGBTQ+ advocacy and event leadership. At UNC Chapel Hill, I served as LGBTQ+ Student Ambassador, collaborating with 22 peers to raise awareness, build community, and lead 10+ initiatives such as LGBTQ+ Veterans Appreciation Luncheon, Pride Week and Black Queer Movie Night. At the University of Hong Kong, I was Vice President of Queer Straight Alliance, where I launched a mentorship program and a diversity recruiting scheme, and co-organized the first campus exhibition dedicated to queer artists. These experiences strengthened my ability to lead inclusively.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

You should vote for me because I bring lived experience, clear vision, and proven commitment. Growing up openly queer in conservative rural China, I faced constant bullying but never stopped defending LGBTQ+ and other marginalized communities. If elected, I will expand the Network’s career initiatives, recognizing the reality that in fields like finance and tech, stereotypes about our community remain widespread and must be meaningfully challenged. In addition to the ability to organize, I’m approachable, collaborative, open-minded, and ready to represent our community with energy and care.
