What I would bring to this role is a mix of persistence and openness. I’m someone who doesn’t give up easily when something matters, but also knows how to listen and adapt when different perspectives are on the table. I’ve grown used to working in teams where ideas clash, and I’ve learned how to find common ground and keep things moving forward. I’m organised, patient, and motivated, but above all I’d bring the determination to turn collective concerns into real solutions.
I would be a rep who listens first, then acts. Someone approachable and open to different perspectives, who makes sure concerns don’t stop at complaints but reach the right people. Through international projects and student councils, I’ve learned how to adapt, collaborate across cultures, and stay focused under pressure. I would be patient in hearing small everyday issues, but also determined to push for bigger improvements when needed. I’d use those skills to foster a supportive community where challenges become opportunities and motivation drives change.
I’ve learned from eight years as a delegate that representation isn’t about titles but about listening and building trust. If elected, I’d carry that same approach into this role: making sure no concern is too small to be addressed and no idea too big to be voiced. My aim is to ensure clearer communication with staff, quicker responses when issues arise, and a stronger sense of community across our faculty. What matters most is turning everyday frustrations into improvements we can all feel.
In Vancouver, I worked with the Malaysian consulate to plan events and build partnerships with sponsors, creating opportunities. As an event coordinator, I organized diverse cultural activities, trivia nights, and museum tours for over 200 students, balancing logistics with creativity to ensure inclusive and memorable experiences. As a Cultural Ambassador at UBC, I gained strong communication and interpersonal skills by guiding students through campus tours and downtown exploration activities. These experiences reflect my ability to organize impactful events for the wider UCL community.
I hope to establish a monthly feedback loop, empower student-led initiatives and skill development, and launch a monthly newsletter celebrating student work. For monthly feedback, I’ll open an anonymous online form to collect students’ ideas about events, initiatives, and academic life. In terms of skill development, I’ll coordinate opportunities in podcasting, marketing, or leadership workshops to make it easier for showcasing creativity. The monthly newsletter will include students’ stories, art projects, and other achievements, which will be open for students to share beforehand.
As a multicultural individual, I’m open to exploring new places, clubs, and ideas. Through each new country, city, or school I’ve visited, I have always given back to the community or gained new experiences, whether by starting clubs, going on Mangrove visits, or writing articles. I believe these experiences go together with the Student Representative role as they seek to guide students holistically. It goes with the quote I preach from the film ‘A Tourist Guide To Love’, “A tourist wants to escape life; a traveler wants to experience it.”
Hey guys! I'm Jaime (pronounced Hi-may). I hope I can count on your guys' vote as:
- I love meeting people! One reason I'm keen to run for this position is that I'd love to connect with folks from around the faculty.
- I am a good listener, ready to hear people's concerns. I understand the importance of student voice and will ensure it is fairly represented.
- I am used to understanding a wide variety of perspectives and coming up with the best possible solution from them.
- Over the summer, I worked in the Massachusetts State Legislature and developed my communication and networking skills.
I hope I can be a friend and a helping hand to the students. My email and Instagram will always be available for people to contact me. If elected, I intend to:
- Host monthly drop-in sessions for anyone to talk about how they’re doing.
- Communicate via Outlook regarding developments in the various committees.
- Establish a group with Course Reps from all nine departments to ensure equal representation.
Ultimately, what I achieve in this role depends on what the people of SHS wish I would achieve. I am very flexible, and I want to ensure that all departments’ input is taken into account.
Being a representative is no easy job; it requires someone with experience representing and communicating students' interests, someone who can interact with the various departments within our faculty and understand what we want. As SHS UG representative, I will go out of my way to get to know people from all the different departments and, to the best of my ability, represent all of you guys. If any of you guys have any questions, please feel free to message me! My email is [email protected], and my Instagram is @ja_padilla06. Hope I can count on you!
FOR YOU AND ME, VOTE JAIME P.
I bring lived experience, resilience and real access. I've fought through setbacks that taught me persistence, and I know how to use my voice for others. I already work with a magic circle law firm, I'm an Avicenna scholar and I have personal relationships with mp's aswell as those behind major social mobility platforms. With over 3000 active Linkedin connections, I can open doors that others can't - whether thats linking students with firms, mentors or opportunities. I'm outgoing, approachable and ready to use my network for us.
If I'm elected I don't just want to raise issues, I want to deliver. What sets me apart is that I already have the networks and lived experience to actually do something with this role. I work with a global law firm, I'm an Avicenna scholar and I am friends with people behind huge social mobility platforms. That means if a student needs opportunities, mentoring or a voice with decision makers - from ups to firms - I can connect them. I want to use everything I've built, all the rooms I am in to give back to students who don't have the same access. That's how I will make this role matter.
Vote for me because I've never been afraid to speak up when it matters. Back in school, during the Jack Petchey challenge, I stood in front of my entire school and told them I had ADHD and ASD. I didn't do it for attention I did it because I had a platform and wanted to stand up for one of my communities and challenge the bullying culture we had at the time. Thats who I am; outspoken, selfless and willing to put myself out there for others. I'll represent you with that same courage and also use my constantly growing network of professionals to help as many students as I can with their career.
- Held multiple leaderships positions through extra-curricular theatrical projects at UCL. I am organised and proactive, and have always delivered performed my duties to a high standard. Throughout this, I have developed fantastic communication skills, as well as placing a strong emphasis on student welfare.
- I love to speak to people, especially other students and staff, and pride myself on being approachable and friendly. As a faculty rep, I would ensure students feel comfortable in voicing their opinions and thoughts.
- Continue the work of previous faculty reps in fostering an interconnected community across the faculty, such as continuing the legacy of the termly newsletter SHS Scoop, organising faculty wide socials and taking open suggestions from students as to what they would like to see from the faculty this year.
- Develop a more efficient system for the advertising of faculty-wide opportunities to students.
- Proactively seeking out students' thoughts and opinions and represent the academic interests of all student across the faculty, all year round.
- Proactive, communicative and a team player.
- I want to amplify the voices of all students within SHS.
- Supporting all SHS students to benefit from the opportunities available through UCL and beyond.
- Open and transparent communication to students about work within the faculty and the steps being taken to make sure changes student want to see are happening.
- Ultimately I am extremely passionate about my degree, and the opportunities I have benefitted from because of this. I want to continue to foster the environment that allows all students withing the faculty to feel the same.
I have previously held positions on the student committee in my sixth form, acting as a liaison between students and staff, working to democratise student life. I have experience in communicating ideas clearly, knowing when to talk, but more importantly, when to listen.
I firmly believe that the best possible way to improving any institution is by facilitating communication within it, and listening conscientiously.
I enjoy talking to people, and finding out what matters to them, I hope to compassionately and authentically represent the faculty.
I hope to faithfully represent everyone in the faculty, working on the issues that they regard as the most important. To this aim, I would ensure active communication with the student body, and hold regular drop-in events where students can come to let their voices be heard. The largest blocker to student involvement in decision making is opportunity. I aim to give as many people this opportunity as possible, and cultivate mutual understanding within the faculty.
I will speak for you directly, I won't compromise on this, my first priority is the accurate representation of my peers, and to then ensure a comfortable and productive environment for all to enjoy.
I will make sure that the community is involved in all decision making, and remain sensitive to the changing needs of people as we make our way forwards, together.
I won't offer anything that I can't deliver, I'll always be around to help with any concerns or issues that you may face.
I’m in my second year as a Lead Department Rep, convening SPCs and co-designing fixes with academics. I’ve benchmarked SHS practice against UK/US/global Higher Education, so I understand how policy, pedagogy and governance work at UCL and beyond. Beyond AI, I focus on curriculum quality, research-led teaching and reproducible methods that keep SHS's distinctive place in the ecology of HE by producing social & historical science that is remarkable and reliable. I bridge qual/quant, represent all programmes, and negotiate with staff, the Union and non-teaching services to get solutions adopted.
Assessment & feedback: shared rubrics across modules; calibration; feed-forward; use the full scale (not “70 = ceiling”); plain-English Board of Examiners guides; simpler appeals with clear timelines; students’ rights to information (incl. FOI). Equity & parity: diagnose programme grading gaps and fix causes; stronger methods/dissertation support. Relational feedback: dialogic marking and office hours that build trust. AI for learning: discipline-aware guidance (UCL Copilot), protect paywalled content, sustainability. Workloads: realistic for students and staff, including non-teaching staff.
Choose a Rep who can turn big questions into change. I’ll build cross-Faculty coalitions, defend fair marking (not “publishable-only” for 90+), and uphold intellectual freedom with accountability. I’ll scrutinise institutional partnerships against sustainability and human-rights standards, support staff and non-teaching colleagues, and keep education that helps, not harms everyone who is involved in its production and dissemination. Keeping UCL curious about the experience of its students by doing what social scientists do best, asking big questions in small places in a liberating way.
I bring strong interdisciplinary experience and teamwork skills from both research and volunteering. As a research assistant at China Agricultural University, I worked on policy analysis and event organisation, enhancing my coordination, communication, and leadership abilities. At Ecoplore, I worked as a volunteer in a team to collect environmental data, engaging the public in environmental and sustainable education. With this background, I’m responsible, approachable, and committed to representing diverse student voices across disciplines within the faculty.
If elected, I hope to strengthen communication between students and staff and ensure that feedback leads to real improvements.
Since I find all disciplines in our faculty very interesting, I want to promote more interdisciplinary exchange within the faculty, encouraging collaboration between Geography, Economics, Sociology, and other related subjects.
As a migrant, I also aim to create a more inclusive and supportive academic community where international and home students feel equally represented.
Last but not least, I want to make the voice of students more influential in the faculty.
Students should vote for me because I truly understand the challenges many of us face in balancing study, life, and belonging. Having studied and lived across cultures, I value empathy, inclusion, and active listening. I want to make sure that every student, especially those who may feel less represented, has a voice in our faculty. I’ll work to strengthen communication, build community, and make our learning environment more supportive for everyone.
Past leadership roles such as Boarding Prefect, Geography Ambassador, Cheerleader and Dance Team Captain have sparked my interest in applying for this position. I am confident in taking responsibility and liaising with different parties in the faculty. Moreover, extracurricular activities namely musical theatre and MUN have cultivated me as an open-minded and determined person. Additionally, I am able to speak Chinese, Cantonese, and English fluently. Students with multi-language and cultural backgrounds may find me easier to approach, hence, voice out unnoticed struggles they face.
There are 3 major goals I aim to achieve if I am elected. Firstly, increase faculty cohesion between departments, creating platforms for interdisciplinary and conversations beyond lectures and seminars. Secondly, tackle problems that Students with English as Second Language may face, such as confusion during lectures or feeling overwhelmed because of readings. That extra support should be further discussed. Finally, promote Social Data Science stream within departments as an official course on UCAS to reduce administrative pressure on students and leadership teams during freshers.
Foremost, experiences in the past have developed my skills to communicate, cooperate and commit. Along with my multilingual talent, cohorts with diverse language backgrounds may find resonance and more approachable when raising concerns. I am dedicated to attain my goals, whilst, taking in opinions and voices from various perspectives as they evolve.
Running as your Faculty of Social and Historical Science UG Representative, I will put forth my best effort to acknowledge your concerns, liaise with relevant parties, shape an inclusive and understanding learning environment on your behalf.
As Faculty Rep, I will be pragmatic, approachable and open. I am running based on my experience as a student mentor, where I would always hear the same issues from other students. My experiences on large committees, like UCL basketball, have taught me to value and democratise all voices, regardless of size or importance. Now in my 4th year at UCL, I have been through it all, from a year abroad to exam stress. I will deliver a balance of fairness and pragmatism as your rep by working with faculties, hearing all opinions and using my experience to listen actively and put the issues of SHS first!
I will become a voice that students can rely on. I come from a department within the SHS that is tiny compared to others, and I want to use this to show how small voices can stand to represent all. I think that personally, being a faculty representative provides a learning opportunity that very few other jobs offer, and I hope to convert this learning into becoming a strong voice that represents our community on a large scale. Practically, I will make these achievements manifest in long-term impact goals such as the key issues of contact hours, study spaces, and the (un)affordability of UCL.
Contact hours, wellbeing services, exam workloads and the affordability of student life are all at the centre of what I want to focus on.
As rep, I want to learn about the issues of students and push them higher and higher up the UCL administration chain to bring long-term change to core issues. I will hear the issues of all within SHS and work collaboratively to achieve long-term improvements, fast!
Many in SHS just want to be listened to on basic issues. With me as rep, we can change these problems now- and for good. Vote for Tom for an active ear and a lasting change for all of us!
