Serena Pong
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I’m an experienced advocate for student wellbeing with a history of success at my previous university. When students complained that they didn’t understand course topics, I brought their concerns to the professor and successfully negotiated to change the curriculum. Student satisfaction increased by 50%! When international students felt they didn’t fit in with the local culture, I worked with the student union to create a buddy program with over 60 participants.

I didn’t have a peer to speak up for me when I needed it. That’s why I go the extra mile to make sure no student suffers like I did.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

As your Faculty Rep, I will:

  1. Foster a sense of community among all PGTs by organizing regular academic and social events.

Plus, you’ll get someone who knows firsthand the struggles international students face and someone who is always ready to listen to you - your joys, your sorrows, your concerns, your story.

I was elected Course Rep for 2024/25 by almost 50% of students because they believe in me. Join them by voting me for Faculty Rep, and together, we’ll make the IOE our home away from home.
