Magdalena Georgieva (she/her )
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Growing up in a bilingual immigrant household, has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the importance of communication and considering different perspectives in conversations. I possess a deep sense of empathy, which allows me to understand and appreciate my fellow students' diverse opinions and feelings. My leadership skills have been honed through my time working as a tutor, where I successfully managed, organised and taught groups of up to 16 children through their 11 plus and SATS exams. Additionally, my strong communication skills, which I developed through public speaking workshops during my time at sixth form enable me to articulate student concerns clearly and effectively to faculty and administration.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

As someone who is part of the small cohort of the human neuroscience course, I hope to bridge the gap between all the diverse courses which make up the faculty of brain sciences, ultimately creating a more cohesive student experience. I also wish to give a voice to students who may feel intimidated to confide in their lecturers, as someone who will relate to their experience and always advocate for better student-faculty member relationships. During my time as a representative, I would work to install more brain-science social and academic events to help increase community in the department.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

As a candidate for Student Representative, I bring a unique perspective shaped by my background in a bilingual immigrant household, which fosters my appreciation for diverse viewpoints. With proven leadership experience as a tutor, I have effectively managed and inspired groups, demonstrating my commitment to academic success. I am dedicated to giving a voice to all in our department and organising events that foster community. My strong public speaking skills will help articulate student needs clearly and advocate for necessary resources. As student representative, I will truly represent all in the Faculty of Brain Sciences.
