Candidates

Luna De La Llama Kempeneers (she/her)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I have significant leadership experience, from being Secretary-General at the largest University-level UN conference in europe, to treasurer and uniform officer of my sports society during my undergraduate education. I have experience with working with different people from different backgrounds and making sure that I can communicate myself and the needs of others in an optimal manner. Having already completed a Master's Degree, I know the unique challenges of postgraduate education, and am confident that I am able to take this on alongside my other responsibilities.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I hope to build connections across degrees types; there is such a broad overlap in the subjects that students from different degrees are able to take, and yet most people only know those within their own course, if that. I hope to encourage an environment whereby everyone feels comfortable not only talking to me but to each other. I hope to listen and pay attention to the questions and concerns of my peers, and take real steps to make sure changes are made, not just for the coming years but for my cohort.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I am a compassionate person with a desire to help others and make everyone feel heard. While studing a Masters in the field of Social Science, I have an undergraduate degree in History and Intenational Relations, meaning I am familiar with the experience of students in the Historical Sciences as well. I will be able to represent individuals from all personal and professional backgrounds fairly and equally, advocating for our collective wellbeing in the short year we have as a community at UCL.

Ting Kiat, Gerald Ang
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Frankly, I do not have much experience taking on a similar role as a faculty representative. There were periods of time that I took on several leadership roles in my pre-university and undergrad years. This includes being the events executive in my pre-university mainly overseeing an overseas volunteering activity, and as treasurer in the Singapore Student Association while I was doing my bachelors in Beijing. However, the commitment, discipline and respect for everyone in the team and in the community are transferrable skills I hope to apply to do take on this responsibility competently.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Fundamentally, I hope to fulfil the responsibilities stated as a faculty representative to the best of my abilities. If elected, I hope to be the listening ear to the postgraduates in my faculty, regardless of whether we have met before. I hope to be the mouthpiece whenever problems arise and needs to be addressed, big or small. I hope to be the eyes, where students and staff understand the concerns and perspectives of one another, bridging any gaps that may surface. In summary, my wish is to make the education experience in UCL slightly more seamless with another person to reach out to.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I do not want the post to be left empty. Hence, I hope to step up to represent the community that I will be learning and growing together with for the next year. Granted, I may not be the most outspoken person. However, there will be no hesitation for me to assist whenever necessary within my means when complications complicate. One point that I wish to advocate will be respect for everyone. If elected, I hope to draw on the strengths of one another within the postgrads in the faculty with diverse backgrounds and a variety of skills to offer. Together, there is so much more to achieve.
