Hi, I’m Angel, an MSci Psychology student. With years of volunteering and leading volunteering initiatives, I have:
- Insights into volunteering at UCL: Previous Volunteering Representative who proposed the introduction of a Volunteering Officer, and current Promotional Assistant at the Volunteering Service
- Aspiration to lead change: Founded UCL Cultured Minds, a student-led volunteering project, and an award-winning digital mental health campaign
- Diverse skill set: Volunteering experiences at Mind in Camden, Shout 85258, Beat, UCLH NHS Trust, Kith and Kids, Age UK and London Nightline
For our students to get the best out of volunteering, I strive to achieve 4Cs:
- CONNECT: Organise conferences, socials and focus groups for volunteers to share their experiences and form bonds
- COLLABORATE: Promote and create volunteering opportunities for clubs, societies, and the Volunteering Society
- CAPTIVATE: Launch skills workshops and mentorship schemes for volunteers, as well as strengthen the digital marketing of the Volunteering Service
- COMMUNICATE: Be a responsive contact for Volunteering Representatives and volunteers, welcoming enquiries, suggestions and feedback anytime
I was honoured to be one of the first Volunteering Reps last year. Spotting the acute underrepresentation of volunteers and the communication gap with clubs and societies, I proposed to add the role of Volunteering Officer and heavily drafted the policy proposal.
This year, I aspire to further actualise such ambition by becoming the Volunteering Officer and working with the new Volunteering Reps. Whilst you impact our community in different forms, I am eager to back you up and perfect your volunteering experience. Cast your precious vote to shape the future. You’ve got this.
I am very excited to be at UCL! I am definitely and persistent, strong- willed person who strives to reaches her goals. I have been the head of student union at my high school and I joined several clubs during my undergraduate years at AUC including charity and event-planning related clubs. I believe I will bring heart and excitement to the community at UCL as I love getting to know people and I am very outgoing. I take tasks very seriously and I make sure to pioneer in anything I take part of.
I hope to be connected with several members of the UCL community. Diversity and exposition are very important to the growth of any striving scholar, and growth is what I hope to accomplish. Learning, knowledge and exposition are keys to the success of any leader and therefore, through my position I aim to enhance my leadership skills. Apart from personal growth, I hope to make a difference in the UCL community in any way I can.
“Why are you always smiling?” This phrase has been thrown at me for years from all my friends, family members and colleagues. I believe the UCL community is all about diversification and spreading cultural knowledge and passing it down. That is why I believe students should vote for me. I am always willing to help and go out of my way to make, even a slight difference, in someone’s day or put a smile on their faces. I am hardworking and persistent and I think these are the qualities that make a good volunteering officer.

- Organize social events to unite volunteers.
- Collaborate with societies to work on more volunteering projects.
- Encourage more volunteering engagement in BAME students.
- Provide training and workshops to develop volunteering skills.
- Actively listen to you and collect feedback through social media and service.
- Host more volunteering award ceremonies to celebrate your achievements.

What makes us the best Volunteering Officer to look out for you?
Jingyi - From discovering the opportunity at SU and actually putting myself forward to volunteer at Royal Opera House, I learnt how to offer efficient help. As a promotional assistant at SU, communication with students makes me fully aware what we need to make our volunteer community a better place.
Yalin - I volunteered as a CoachBright tutor and I made the bestest friends whilst volunteering! Last summer I also helped RMHCUK raised £500 for children at hospital - this was a challenge I found on the SU Volunteering Directory!
I am actively involved in 3 volunteering movements.
As a volunteer for Ujjala: Society for the Blind in Delhi, I teach adults key life skills to strive towards self sufficiency, which has enhanced my communication abilities.
Becoming a member of FoodCycle in London has developed my team-player skills. I distribute and prepare food, with a group of hard-working volunteers, to disadvantaged communities in Marylebone.
Through working with Senses in Dubai, I was able to lead teenagers with special needs. This was accomplished by independently teaching educational programs.
I hope to increase the accessibility for students to volunteer with international organisations and NGOs in order to actively participate in local community initiatives, environmental programs etc. This will stem from the large network of connections and relationships I have maintained over the past 5 years. I believe the act of volunteering improves one people’s skills and is significant in the practice of mindfulness. Through greater timely and organised campaigning of volunteering opportunities, I hope to improve the efficiency of those wishing to participate.
In summary, students would be electing an individual who is extremely experienced and possesses key organisational/communication skills. As a student, it is understandable that one finds it hard to balance their time. However, becoming a volunteer rep is high on my priority list; I look forward to dedicating a considerable amount of time to elevate the opportunities within the University. In addition, I guarantee to establish more transparent communication between the leadership team and student body through productive discussions over student recommendations for events etc.
