Deniz Baran Budak
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Hey everyone, I am a finalist at UCL Laws. Those whom I had the chance to meet over the last two years know that I am direct and outspoken. I was the President of my high school’s MUN Club where I learned the importance of strong-willed representation. Currently, I am volunteering for an international human rights organisation and represent them in events in the UK.

Most importantly, I went through what you went through. We had a year fully online, a year hybrid, and now we are back in person. We made great memories, and I want your experience here at UCL to reflect your expectations.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Active Feedback

Most of you will see me in Bentham House and I will actively ask for your input before Faculty and Academic Board meetings. If there is an issue you want to raise anonymously, I will also provide you with the adequate platform for it.

Accountability

You can ask me how and why I used my votes in the Academic Board meetings or why I raised particular issues during Faculty meetings. If your concerns have not been addressed in the way you like, you will be able to ask me why and correct me. I will use my platform to amplify your voices to the best of my capabilities.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Transparency

Most importantly, I will keep you updated on your inquiries and requests. Throughout these years, especially after UCL cut ties with Stonewall, I learned a great deal about the Academic Board where I would be representing you. No matter where you stand on an issue, after our conversations, I know that you value transparency the most. I will keep you informed about the decisions I made as your Rep and the content of my meetings with the Faculty as much as I am allowed.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Have run the LGBTQ network at secondary (a bit dated but I have enthusiasm!)

Have been an active member of the LGBTQ community for 6 years I'm pretty invested.

I love meeting people and want to make UCL as progressed with trans rights as much as possible before I leave.

Part of the queer liberation front which does a bunch of activism related to trans rights (re. our night pride last Friday)

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Establish a strong community of trans people within UCL - I want everyone to know eachother and be able to go to other trans people for support.

Make our provisions easier to access - in the student wellbeing fair next year I want a dedicated stall for trans-specific support.

Provide some provision for practically transitioning within the UK - this is a big one so will require everyone to be on board!

Make sure everyone in the network gets through their degree - study groups and relaxation time are essential.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I'm not going to tell anyone what to do. I hope that students vote for me based on what I can do for our community at UCL and because they trust that I want what's best for them.

Everyone here is capable of making an informed decision so I'm not gonna try to sway them either way - I put my full support behind the trans network whether I am rep or not :^)

Ella Nnadi
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Firstly I will bring my compassionate and understanding approach to life to this role. My experience of working part time in a customer focused role for over a year has equipped me with the communication, listening and problem solving skills needed to be a successful representative.

Secondly, being an active member of the UCL law society by engaging in mooting completions and networking events has enhanced my ability to clearly and effectively represent an issue or topic. I believe this will allow me to represent issues facing law students of all backgrounds excellently.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I most critical goal is to achieve higher rates of student satisfaction with representatives and to create a strong ethos of community, growth and effective communication. I also intend to achieve more transparency and clarity for students and to enable the faculty to better meet students needs through more collaborative and organised dialogue.   As a black LGBT+ woman studying law at UCL I cannot firmly say that my needs and opinions have been accurately represented to the law faculty in the past and I hope to ease this uncertainties for future and current students.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I believe students should vote for me to be their next law faculty representative because I can understand many of the issues they may be facing and as a result will be well suited to representing these issues. Additionally I have been able to manage working part time, being a part of societies, social life and academics because of my excellent organisational skills which in turn will help me to manage and organise events and meetings necessary for their issues to be represented. Students should vote for someone who is organised, understanding and empathetic and I have all of these qualities.

Angela Escobar Brown
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

To this role, I bring extensive experience being a representative, having been the year rep for my cohort over the past year. I have proven myself to be someone approachable, someone who will see concerns raised through until their resolution. I know how to bring student issues up such that they will be resolved, having worked closely with last year's UG rep and year reps in faculty meetings. I will lead by their examples and maintain good working relationships with members of the faculty, while still getting things done on behalf of the student body.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I hope to further open the lines of communication between students and faculty. I think establishing transparency about what is discussed in meetings, what resolutions will be reached for student concerns and why certain ideas don't go through should be completely open for student discussion. I also want to extend my reach and make sure that every single undergraduate student feels they can come to me with anything so that no one falls through the cracks. Hopefully, with open communication and transparency, more of what students want to happen, can happen.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Students should vote for me because I am a reliable choice. I have been elected twice as a year rep and stayed true to all my initial commitments. I'm not afraid to approach the faculty with student concerns, always prioritize the cohort's needs over my own, and I am a consistently available contact for students. I am passionate about advocacy and representation and greatly enjoy being a year rep. It would be an honour and a privilege to expand on the work I have been doing as a year rep to the entire UG student body. I hope you'll vote me for UG Rep so I can represent you all the best I can!
