Candidates

Alice Cozens

Over the past three years (as Gen Sec and Team Captain), I have organized and led various teaching and training sessions, providing me with valuable insights and experience that I am eager to bring to the role of club president. If elected as team captain, I am committed to continuing this journey, encouraging each member to strive for their personal best, regardless of their starting point.

As team captain, I envision expanding the horizons of our club by working with the president to introduce new and enriching opportunities for our members:

  • Weekly Open Mat Class with Conditioning:

I plan to implement a weekly open mat class with a focus on conditioning drawing from my previous involvement in running similar sessions.

  • Development of a Core Fighting Team:

A primary goal for this year is to foster the growth of a core fighting team within our club. In the previous year, UCL had only two fights (one being mine), and as president, I am committed to working closely with the committee to ensure that all members ready and dedicated to training have the opportunity to compete. I have already initiated contact with other universities hosting fights this year, laying the groundwork for a more active and competitive participation.

  • Cross-Collaboration with Other Martial Arts Societies:

Recognizing the importance of a well-rounded martial artist, I have commenced discussions with other UCL martial arts societies, including Muay Thai, BJJ, and Kung Fu.

  • Promoting Inclusivity and Encouraging Women's Participation:

This year, I

Chris Greenhough

In my role as Training Team Lead this past year, my focus was on refining and intensifying our training, fostering strength, fitness, speed, and mental readiness for sparring and competition. If elected as Team Captain, I commit to continuing this momentum and working diligently to enhance the remarkable team atmosphere that I experience every time I enter the training room with all of you.

Collaborating closely with the Club President and the committee, my priority is to ensure that our club remains a safe and supportive environment for everyone and creating an atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable learning and growing. While advocating for Saturday sessions (refer to my candidacy for Club President!), as Team Captain I will focus on making the classes we have already as enjoyable as they are challenging.

Recognising the potential for competition this year, I am also committed to working with the training and fight team leads to provide opportunities for everyone interested in stepping into the ring. Your support for my candidacy as Team Captain will contribute to fostering a positive training experience and ensuring that our club thrives both on and off the mats.
