Alice Cozens

Over the past three years (as Gen Sec and Team Captain), I have organized and led various teaching and training sessions, providing me with valuable insights and experience that I am eager to bring to the role of club president. If elected as president, I am committed to continuing this journey, encouraging each member to strive for their personal best, regardless of their starting point.

As I aspire to take on the role of president, I envision expanding the horizons of our club by introducing new and enriching opportunities for our members:

  • Weekly Open Mat Class with Conditioning:

I plan to implement a weekly open mat class with a focus on conditioning drawing from my previous involvement in running similar sessions.

  • Development of a Core Fighting Team:

A primary goal for this year is to foster the growth of a core fighting team within our club. In the previous year, UCL had only two fights (one being mine), and as president, I am committed to working closely with the committee to ensure that all members ready and dedicated to training have the opportunity to compete. I have already initiated contact with other universities hosting fights this year, laying the groundwork for a more active and competitive participation.

  • Cross-Collaboration with Other Martial Arts Societies:

Recognizing the importance of a well-rounded martial artist, I have commenced discussions with other UCL martial arts societies, including Muay Thai, BJJ, and Kung Fu.

  • Promoting Inclusivity and Encouraging Women's Participation:

This year, I aim

As your Training Team Lead this past year, I focused on streamlining and intensifying training, getting us strong, fit, fast, and preparing our minds and bodies to spar and compete. Now, I'm running for Club President to apply my 20 years of martial arts and leadership experience. I've studied modern and traditional striking styles, developed and taught a syllabus in the U.S., and competed nationally and internationally. My commitment to improvement is unwavering and my background informs my insights into club management and curriculum development.

As president, my goals are to make everyone a well-rounded martial artist, ensure a strong competition presence, and build a true community of fighters. I will add regular Saturday sessions with open mat sparring, workshops, and seminars covering MMA-specific and traditional forms. I will encourage all students to have their say in what we learn, and we'll embrace the meaning of mixed martial arts: strong, fearless, dangerous in the ring, confident outside of it. Whether you're a seasoned fighter or a beginner, we will transform everyone into a confident and capable martial artist during their time with us.

We are on track to being one of the most successful martial arts societies in the SU, now is the time to push our learning and solidify the team that I see training every week. A vote for me signals a commitment to effective leadership, accelerated growth as a martial artist, and a dynamic club offering something for everyone.
