Karis Lai

As a first year international student, I bring a unique perspective to the table. My experiences allowed me to gain an extensive understanding of many cultures hence the importance of global collaboration. I aim to create an inclusive space where ideas flow freely and a stronger sense of community for all. I will also contribute in bridging the gap between different years and ensure a larger variety of topics can be discussed. There will always be something for you.

Back in high school, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to organise multiple large scale events with 100+ participants. I believed the insights I gained as well as the communication and organisation skills I honed during these experiences will allow me to work with my team efficiently and organise impactful conferences .

I bring not just skills, but heart and passion to make Med Tech society a dynamic and collaborative hub of innovation for all.

As a fellow student passionate about bridging the intersection between technology and healthcare, I am committed to championing diversity and inclusion within the MedTech sector. Recognising the importance of diverse perspectives in driving innovation, I hope to coordinate an inclusive conference that celebrates the richness of diversity within the industry. -Having actively participated in a Health Equity Hackathon hosted by MSD and Eli Lilly, where I tackled the issue of how pharma can support ethnic minority communities in identifying skin conditions, I have experienced first-hand working with other students from marginalised backgrounds to create an innovative solution in combat of the lack of representation in pharma.

-My work at Centre for Ageing Better aimed at developing their flagship report, looking into addressing the inequalities older people face in the UK. Feel free to browse the report here.

I am a first year Medical Physics student hoping to explore opportunities in the field of Medical technology and learn from pioneering experts. The most recent Technology in Disability talk hosted by the Medtech society was a very insightful event to me as I learnt the diverse projects that aim to aid ones who are suffering. I am excited to hear more in the D&I in Medtech Conference as it provides a great platform for researchers and expertise to share to the public their latest work and interesting ideas.

With past experience as Music captain in high school hosting the school music show, I am keen to use my communication skills to contribute to the organisation of the D&I in Medtech Conference.

India Deans-Smith

Hi, my name is India and I’m a fifth-year medical student. I’m deeply passionate about fostering diversity and inclusion within the technology sector. After attending the Python workshop and Women in Medtech conference last year, I'm inspired to contribute my skills to the Medtech Society as the Diversity and Inclusion Executive. With a robust background in organisations like "Code First Girls" and a two-year presidency at UCL Sexpression, I've cultivated leadership and advocacy skills. These experiences uniquely position me to promote inclusivity in Medtech. I aim to amplify the voices of underrepresented groups, ensuring our events resonate with diverse perspectives. My goal is to bridge gaps, creating an environment where everyone feels empowered to thrive in the Medtech community.
