Zoya Atif

Hello everyone!

If elected as Frist Year Representative, I want to be the person who organises exiting events for us , speaks up for what we need, and foster a strong sense of community for those passionate about life sciences.

As a debating coach and academic tutor , I have strong communication skills. I am easily approachable, reflected in my roles as mental health officer and prefect.

I want to arrange research opportunities , work experience , and scientific talks so we can fully benefit from our time at UCL!

So vote for me as First Year Rep :))

Sarah Taleb

Having dedicated seven years to studying Earth and Life Sciences as part of the French Baccalaureate, my passion for the field has consistently grown. This journey has deepened my interest in various aspects of life sciences, including ecology, zoology, and biology. As a first year biomedical sciences student, I believe that my role as a First Year Representative would be an excellent platform to advocate for and support my fellow students. I am eager to attentively listen to all first year students' concerns, propositions and ideas and to represent them with my voice. It is crucial to bridge the gap between new students and the society's leadership. I believe that my leadership and listening skills, alongside my creativity and outgoing character, are what make this role well suited for me. I am dedicated to being proactive and attentive to the enquiries of all students and members of the life science society.

As someone who finds great joy in scientific exploration and has always craved an opportunity to use my passion for science to make a meaningful difference, I’m incredibly excited about this opportunity to become your first year rep! I know what a wonderful feeling it is to be a part of a community of like minded people who share one’s keen interest in science - I hope to be able to contribute to the Life Sciences Society’s role in providing a community like that for first year students!

Founding the Science Research and Discussion Society at my college has given me invaluable insight into what it takes to organize educational events and bring together students passionate about scientific research and create an effective environment for the sharing of scientific ideas.

As a science tutor of more than 2 years and a Project Leader for UCL Cancer Charity Alliance volunteer project, I have managed to develop effective communication and leadership skills, which I hope to employ in this role to advocate for the first year students’ suggestions and help organise exciting talks with academics that will inspire and fulfil the students’ thirst for scientific knowledge!
