Roy Shu

Fellow UCLUNA colleagues,

During my years of MUN experience, I have been both in MUN teams that keep to themselves, and those who reach out to our fascinating world. The structures more willing to explore fundamentally foster deeper understandings, a broader range of lifelong social connections, and simply… more fun, in so many ways!

I highly appreciate our UCLUNA’s current external relations, especially embassy/real UN office visits and joint society events. Let’s expand on this foundation through:

  • More explicit interaction of MUN research with embassy visits: Too often, it seems that our embassy visits work separately from our MUN activities, with some members only participating in one or the other. Imagine how engaging it would be to raise our MUN research topics at embassy visits, with members more aware of what each “side” of UCLUNA does and better able to express their delegation’s nuanced position at conferences.
  • More/deeper joint events with cultural societies: Similar to above, but with a more bottom-up view of a country’s situation!
  • Making MUN less Euro/London-centric: The London and European MUN circuit is amazing, but it can become a “bubble” that limits our thinking. While we have time/funding limits, we can at least expand global recruitment for our UCLMUN conference and run informal virtual chats with MUN teams at other major global universities (MUN culture can be shockingly different elsewhere).

Vote Roy to reach out a helpful hand, to our own and the whole world.

Lorenzo Sbordoni

I have participated in an MUN society for almost 5 years, two of which were with UCL UNA. This, combined with extensive study of the social sciences, has prepared me for the responsibilities and expectations placed on the Vice President of External Relations. I have attended many events that UCL UNA has hosted. This includes speaker events as well as many embassy visits, a few of which I led. Furthermore, having held the position of social secretary this year, I was quite involved with the external department of our society. I have organized the social event myself and followed all of the society's external events since I was responsible for media posts.
