Taekwondo Club: Volunteering Officer

I think volunteering is a great way for the society to connect with the wider community, while also building stronger relationships within the team. It gives us a chance to do something meaningful together outside of training. I’m confident in organising events and maintaining clear communication, so students always know how to get involved. Most importantly, I want to encourage students to see volunteering as something rewarding and enjoyable, something they would want to take initiative in rather than obligatory. 

Hello! I’m Abby and I’m excited to run for Volunteering Officer :D 

I’m applying for this role as volunteering has always been a passion of mine because it’s an opportunity for me to give back to the community while getting to know people and being inspired by their stories. I believe connecting my dedication for volunteering with a sport I have been doing for more than 10 years would serve as a platform for me to bring all these amazing ideas I have together which are centred around one word. Impact.

1. Impacting the community: A volunteering event I have in mind is teaching children self defence skills. I believe integrating pad work would also be fun. Additionally, as Somers Town Community Sports Centre is close to the Euston Foodbank, members could volunteer by giving out food parcels to the community. 
2. Impacting the club: By organising creative fundraising initiatives, additional funds could be channeled to buying new equipment or sparring kits.
3. Impacting the members: Volunteering is a valuable experience where members would be able to gain skills like effective communication. However, I believe that the most memorable part of volunteering is contributing back to the community and being able to interact with diverse groups of people. 

Taekwondo has quickly been a great community of people sharing the same passion in the sport and through this role, I’d be able to not only give back to the Taekwondo community but also to the wider community through fun and meaningful initiatives.

I’m standing for volunteering officer because my passion for community engagement truly lies at the heart of my work.

As your current general secretary, my organisational skills and dedication to the club are the perfect tools to help expand our charity initiatives… as well as staying on top of the game with organising volunteers for competition!

Alongside my studies, I’ve committed myself to a range of different positions. For the past two years I’ve volunteered with the Imperial Health Charity, I’ve worked for the Aldridge Foundation for another three, and am currently in the process of fundraising in support of Mind. 

My experience in hosting events is also incredibly beneficial to the role. I’ve led large scale projects involving 200+ guests which have turned out to be hugely successful, not to mention my most recent bake sale having raised almost £500 in the span of a few hours! 

This is all to say that I would wholeheartedly enjoy being your volunteering officer, and would love to use my skills to help our club make an even bigger impact.
