Hi everyone, I'm Shreya :)
I’m a 3rd year student and I am running for the role of Trauma and Orthopaedics Chair for UCL Surgical Society.
In terms of my personal qualities, I am an extremely friendly and caring person. Everyone’s viewpoints are incredibly valuable and therefore my main priority as Trauma and Orthopaedics Chair would be to always ensure that I take the time to listen to everyone and consistently deliver on any feedback that is provided to me.
- I have been actively involved as UCL Surgical Society Publicity Officer in 2024-2025 where I have helped actively promote many events, conferences and opportunities via various platforms.
- This year, I am looking forward to helping out with upcoming UCL Surgical Society conferences through both of my current roles as a university outreach officer within the UCL Academic Surgery subcommittee and as a conference officer within UCL Global Surgery Subcommittee.
Here are a few of my core aims for next year:
- More hands-on skill workshops
- More opportunities to connect with trauma and orthopaedic surgeons who are shaping this field
- Trauma and Orthopaedics themed podcast
- MMB anatomy tutorials
- Inclusivity!
- UCL Surgical Society Trauma and Orthopaedics conference
Hi! I’m Aarush, and I’m excited to be running for Trauma & Orthopaedics chair!
With T&O growing across UCLMS it is my aim to help build a society that provides ample opportunity for students to deepen their interest in the specialty.
As 25-26 T&O Events Officer and Education Co-Lead for the Surgical Skills Course, I’ve developed the organisational and practical skills needed to move T&O society forward in two main ways:
- Increased workshop frequency throughout the year – Providing regular, immersive workshops organised according to orthopaedic subspecialty with:
- UCL Surgical Society – Expanding exposure to underexplored orthopaedic subspecialties through collaboration with Paediatric, Vascular and Cardiothoracic Surgery
- KCL and St George’s - To run larger workshops with more personalised teaching and gain access to a wider range of surgeons across multiple trusts, ensuring students gain exposure to more operative techniques and subspecialty perspectives.
- Early integration – Leveraging UCL’s deep connection to T&O by using clinical contacts through our alumni.
- Exposure – Giving preclinical students a glimpse into the specialty through involvement in a supportive capacity at conferences or taster events, similar to the 2025 Trauma Day at the Royal Free.
- Research – Creating a streamlined mentorship scheme with academically renowned surgeons to benefit clinical year students and introduce preclinical students into the world of research.
Thank you for your support!
Hi All! T&O is one of the most exciting specialties in surgery. Whether you're already passionate or just curious, my aim is to deepen your interest and open doors because breaking in can be tough, whether that's finding research, navigating the training pathway, or simply getting exposure. As Chair, I want to fix that.
Three years on this subcommittee have shown me what makes a great Chair and, where things go wrong. With a fourth-year orthopaedic rotation and a network of CSTs, Regs and consultants across Royal Free, RNOH, and beyond. I know what our members need and how to deliver it.
My plans:
- Events — Find national T&O events, maintain our consultant-led talks, and strengthen links with the Journal Club and surgical breakfasts
- Sponsored Speaker Series — Covering everything from CST applications and subspecialty careers to orthopaedic technology, funded through industry and clinical sponsorship
- Research Connections — Directly linking members to projects, because research shouldn't feel out of reach
- A Student T&O Day — A dedicated one-day event for medical students, inspired by the lower limb days at the Royal Free
- Tutorials — Continuing high-quality MSK and orthopaedic tutorials for second and fourth years
- Inter-Society Collaboration — Closer ties with other London ortho societies and BOMSA to broaden opportunities beyond UCL
T&O deserves to be showcased at its best. I have the experience, the network, and the drive to make that happen. I hope you'll give me the opportunity!
