Dhanyata Narendra

Hi, I’m Dhanyata (incoming Y5), and I’m standing to be your next President of UCL Surgical Society!

With my Academic Surgery subcommittee, I launched a consultant-led mentorship scheme with 30+ groups, building relationships with surgeons across London. I aim to sustain these connections so their support continues to strengthen our Society.

Achievements

  • Academic Coordinator, INUGSC (24/25) – delivered a Research Symposium with abstract publication for selected candidates and funded full-paper publication for winners
  • Secretary, UCL Medical Society (24/25) – coordinated 14 specialty subcommittees
  • Student Lead, Widening Access to Medical Sciences (22-present) – secured grants + organised taster days for a faculty level WP programme

Building on our predecessor’s work, my goals are to –

EDUCATE & ELEVATE

  • Resident doctor-overseen tutorials (FY1/2s, CSTs) for Years 4-6, shaped by MLA experience + MRCS preparation
  • For pre-clinical students: theatre exposure, continue practical skills course + link basic sciences to surgical cases

CONNECT & CENTRALISE

  • consultant/SpR directory to support shadowing + repeat engagement
  • Robust handover documentation during specialty advisory panel

BUILD & EXPAND

  • Society-wide funding + seed funds for subcommittees
  • Hospitalindustry partnerships to source decommissioned equipment for training

Experience has shown me the value of institutional memory and collaboration. I would be honoured to lead with that vision and to provide the best value for money for

Lizzie Fu

Hi, I'm Lizzie!

I joined SurgSoc in Year 1 as a member, excited to explore surgery beyond the curriculum. From Surg-Skills to tutorials to networking events, I found not just inspiration but a genuine community. As Pre-Clin Rep, and now Vice-President and INUGSC lead, I see how much impact this society can have.

I want every member—newly curious or fully committed—to feel confident as part of this community too.

My 3 Goals:

  1. Cultivate an Uplifting Community: I want to foster a culture where ideas are shared openly from all years, making opportunities accessible to all. This means transparent communication, empowering committee members to lead, and with our new Mentorship Officer, having a clearer path for members to explore careers and research.
  2. Deliver Impactful, Dynamic Events: Each division should have a flagship initiative that is purposeful, sharp in quality, and memorable. Every event should leave members motivated.
  3. Keep SurgSoc Strong and Sustainable: With 500+ members, maintaining stability matters. I'll prioritise financial oversight, stronger sponsorship relationships, and detailed committee handovers.

Why Me?

I’ve gotten to know SurgSoc at different levels and feel equipped to navigate the society. Importantly, I've learned that listening is often the best way to push effective collaboration.

1500 characters is tough. Please hear me elaborate at AGM! I'd be honoured to lead SurgSoc into its next chapter and would love the opportunity to work with you next year!
