Raveena Boopathy

Hi everyone, I’m Raveena, and I’d love to be your next Ob/Gyn & Foetal Surgery Chair 🤍

Why me?

Summit success: As Finance Officer on the O&G Committee, I helped organise SurgSoc’s first ever O&G Summit, a huge milestone that brought together 50 students and 20 clinicians across England.

Leadership & delivery: I’m currently Executive Events Officer in MedSoc, helping deliver large-scale events like the Networking Reception. I understand how to run high-quality events, manage logistics, and work within a wider committee to turn ideas into reality.

Academic passion: Having designed and delivered a structured O&G teaching series, my interest in O&G goes beyond events. I care deeply about women’s health and expanding student engagement with it.

My vision:

An even bigger O&G Summit: Building on this year’s success with broader specialty representation and stronger networking opportunities, establishing it as our flagship annual event.

Early exposure: Accessible intro sessions, research talks, and practical workshops so students can explore O&G long before 5th year.

O&G for everyone: Whether you’re set on surgery, curious to explore women’s health, or just want exam-focused teaching, I want our events to benefit all UCL medical students.

If you want passionate leadership and bigger, better O&G events, I’d love your vote :)

Ody Ozono

I am standing for the role of Chair of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Surgical Society because of my strong passion for Women’s Health. This interest has grown throughout my time at university and was further strengthened during my second-year clinical placement, where conversations with patients highlighted the complexities of women’s healthcare and the importance of advocacy in this field.

Serving as Events Officer this year has given me valuable insight into how the subcommittee runs. A key achievement was helping to organise our Summit, where I created promotional materials and supported coordination on the day to ensure it ran smoothly. This experience developed my confidence, leadership and teamwork skills, and I believe it provides a strong foundation to deliver an even more successful conference next year.

I am keen to continue the excellent work of my predecessor by organising tutorials, career panels, charity initiatives and journal clubs. I would also like to introduce a dedicated Women’s Health series focusing on under-discussed topics such as female genital mutilation, health inequalities, reproductive autonomy and cultural barriers to care, ensuring our events are both academically enriching and socially conscious.

As Chair, I hope to foster a supportive and inclusive environment where members can learn from one another and pursue their aspirations in women’s health.
