Having served as a Promotions Officer for WINS this year, I am keen to apply for the Surgical Society Media Officer position for the upcoming academic year. Throughout my role, I have enjoyed using my creativity and design skills to produce engaging promotional content while working closely with committee members to support the society’s aims. I worked collaboratively with my team to market the 2025 WINS Conference across multiple social media platforms, which strengthened my ability to think strategically, manage deadlines, and adapt content to different audiences. In the lead-up to the conference, we designed and released promotional materials on a weekly basis to maximise outreach, including content introducing the conference theme, advertising ticket sales, and highlighting workshops and speaker sessions. More recently, I contributed to the promotion of the Women in Medicine Pan-London Conference, a joint initiative between the WINS committees of KCL, ICL, QMUL, and UCL. This experience further developed my ability to work across institutions and maintain consistent branding and messaging. These roles have been invaluable in refining my proficiency with Canva, a skill I have actively developed since Sixth Form through involvement in my school’s Medical Societies and charity projects. I am confident that my experience, creativity, and strong organisational skills would allow me to make a meaningful contribution to the Surgical Society’s media team.

Hi, I’m Saanvi Nagaraj and I’m a 1st Year Medic. I am applying to run for Media Officer for Surgical Society. I believe I am suitable for this role as it encompasses the publicity and social media aspects of the society. Previously at my Sixth Form, I was appointed as the Communications Prefect where I created the termly newsletter through leadership and delegating tasks to others in the wider Prefect Team as well as manage the Instagram and other socials. I also acted as the Publicity Officer for the Medic Mentor Virtual Medical Society where planning and communication was essential - I planned multiple sessions where presentations, social media posts and many publicity forms had to be created before the session was approved. In conclusion, I think I am suited for this role due to my vast experience dealing with promotional material and social media communications - skills necessary to excel in this role.

Hi everyone! I hope to be your next Media Officer.

A strong social media presence can help more students discover the events, opportunities, and people that make surgery such an exciting field. As Media Officer, I would aim to create engaging, informative, and consistent content that promotes events and highlights opportunities in surgery.

I currently serve as Publicity Officer for UCL ENT Society and am part of the Publicity Team for the International Neurology & Neurosurgery Conference (INNC). Through these roles, I have gained experience promoting events, designing content, and coordinating outreach across multiple platforms. INNC is the largest undergraduate neurology conference in the UK, and working on its publicity has given me experience in large-scale event promotion and maintaining engagement leading up to major conferences.

If elected, I would focus on:

Increasing visibility of society events through engaging posts, countdowns, speaker highlights, and post-event summaries.

Showcasing opportunities in surgery, including “day in the life” features, specialty spotlights, and posts highlighting research and shadowing.

Collaborating with other societies to broaden outreach and promote interdisciplinary events.

Boosting student engagement through interactive content such as polls, Q&As, and short educational posts.

I would work to ensure the Surgical Society’s social media is dynamic, informative, and widely followed.

Thank you for your consideration!

As a first-year UCL medical student with a strong interest in surgery, I am excited to apply for Social Media and Publicity Officer for UCL Surgical Society. This role appeals to me because it combines my passion for surgery with my experience in digital communication, design, and leadership.

My interest in surgery is grounded in both academic and clinical experience. Writing for the Young Scientist Journal on Trigger Finger Release required translating complex surgical concepts into accessible, engaging content — a skill directly transferable to creating impactful social media posts.

I have practical experience using Canva, having designed presentation posters for the National Teen Tech Awards, where our team won our category. As Head Prefect, I coordinated school-wide events and learned that even well-organised initiatives depend on strong publicity to drive engagement.

In this role, I would introduce Instagram Stories with countdowns, polls, and anatomy quizzes to boost interaction. I would create "Surgical Snapshot" infographics explaining procedures and instruments, post event recaps to build community, and develop short-form Reels and TikToks to expand the society's reach — including to prospective UCL medics.

I am eager to contribute creativity, consistency, and enthusiasm to the committee and become an active and enthusiastic member to help grow the society's presence across the UCL medical community.

I’m standing for media officer because I think visibility and good advertisement is what makes good events into great ones. It increases its accessibility as more students know about it. I enjoy creative communication and I am confident in using design tools to create engaging and professional content. I know how to adapt to my audience and make the message more clear in relation to who I need to convey it to. If I get this position, I would focus on consistent branding, engagement and making sure more students know what opportunities are available within the society.
