Global Surgery is something I’ve been passionate about for a long time, and this interest has only grown as I’ve gained more experience through being on committee this year. As Publicity Officer I’ve collaborated with the whole committee, building relationships I hope to bring to the role next year.

I have worked closely with the current chair organising our conference (and various other events), so I feel I am well prepared to coordinate it next year and make it better than ever! I have lots of ideas for new events, including charity fundraisers, mentorship schemes, debates and society collaborations.

Throughout the year, I have made lots of connections across different year groups and with external speakers and organisations. I would aim to use these connections to build on the momentum we’ve created this year, progressing to bigger and better events, ensuring that they are accessible, well promoted and genuinely impactful.

One of my main objectives would be to increase engagement, because I’m aware of the fact that Global Surgery is not something that we get much exposure to in the early years. We’re a small society, but I believe that with a passionate committee we can grow and reach a wider audience than before - to create a community of medics who are equipped with a broader understanding of global health inequalities, surgical access and the role we can play in advocating for change.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Thank you for your consideration :)
