Have you read the role description for Activities Reps yet?

To vote for this position you must be a member of a Union-affiliated Student Media Society for at least 28 days.

Candidates

James Balloqui (He/Him)
Fair support for all student media!
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

If I am elected your Student Media Rep, I will work to…

  • Scrap grant system for printing - instead directly allocate funding to media for printing costs
  • Campaign for a Printer in the media office - enables societies to have easy access for posters, drafts and editing.
  • Ensure the SU provides fair support to ALL media societies -  no special preferences.
  • Champion our writers - support societies to write SPA noms, and ensure the SU provides tickets to all shortlisted nominees (as opposed to scrambling to get grant funding at the last min rip :( )

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Why am I the best choice:

  • I am a ginger Cheese Grater man, we have to carry on the tradition
  • I already go to every activities zone meeting, please give me a reason to be there not just to annoy the sabbs
  • I am a Union Hack, sadly I know way too much about the union already, at least I can use it to advocate effectively for student media.
  • I genuinely care about student media at UCL, too much some would argue, but at least you know I will be enthusiastic to support you!

If you’re not convinced by this - then I highly recommend reading my Union slop

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Student media at UCL has made my UCL experience so far. Since I joined The Cheese Grater, and this year became News & Investigations Editor, I have gained invaluable experience, made amazing friends and developed a somewhat worrying Stockholm syndrome relationship with Union Politics.

But within my two years I have also realised that the Union could be doing so much more to ensure there is a thriving media landscape at UCL. We have so many talented societies and writers producing media, but a lot of the hard work goes without the recognition and support it deserves.
