Leah Boost

Hi, my name is Leah. I have really enjoyed being a part of committee as your Publicity Officer this year, and I would love to be your Studio Theatre Officer!

There are so many opportunities for members of Stage Crew in the Studio, especially for freshers and people that are new to theatre tech, so it is super important that our members feel supported and comfortable on the crew. Being Studio Theatre Officer would allow me to introduce new people to the society and to what being on a crew is like, allowing them to develop their skills and knowledge, and build their confidence. The Studio is such a versatile space, and I love the range of shows that take place there. This role would allow me to be involved with this huge variety of shows, and would be a very rewarding way to give back to this society.

As Studio Theatre Officer, I would love to continue promoting the space as somewhere that our members can learn and gain experience in crew roles, no matter how much experience they have. I would also ensure that Studio shows continue to be an opportunity for our members to meet new people in the society, as sometimes it can be difficult to do so in bigger crews. I believe that my experience from being on various crews would allow me to provide the right support for all crew members in the Studio and ensure that everyone is supported.

Thank you for considering me for this role!! :)

Chiyo Ngai

I’m running to be Studio Theatre Officer to continue making the Studio a welcoming learning place while delivering high-quality shows!

  • As STO, I would continue the legacy that Rania has set up, continuing the weekly drop-ins for CSMs, opening my dms 24/7 and being available irl and offline to answer any queries that arise from studio productions. It is crucial to continue serving as the first point of contact and being approachable as I’m aware studio productions are most people’s first time working as stage crew!
  • The smaller, more intimate venue of the studio compared to the theatre stands out to me and I would love to oversee and work hands on in all shows in the coming year in it, assisting CSMs and any crew that need help during tech + show weeks.
  • Proposed changes for this year: More training sessions hosted throughout the year, not only for CSMs but regarding basics such as spiking, reading set plans, how to be helpful on set etc. Stricter eligibility and a strike system to avoid last minute non-attendance.
  • Why I’m qualified for this job:
    • LD for 2 Shows, CSM for ‘ART’, stagehand for many more! I am sure to gain much more experiences in the studio this year.
    • I answer dms really quickly and am fully capable of managing logistics and being organised, a requirement for being STO.
  • Wild card: I make sick banana bread and will show up for moral support!

Thank you for reading through my introduction, please vote for me, Chiyo Ngai as your Studio Theatre Officer!

Oona Zurolo

I have been a member of UCL Stage Crew for 6 months, and I have been involved in a variety of stage productions and roles for over 8 years! From working in stage management at an elementary school, to painting and designing in high school, to serving as a set design intern at a professional company, to building sets, operating spotlights, learning about sound, and helping out where I can in any and all UCL productions.

Here, I have come to adore and adopt the passion each diverse collaborator in theatre carries. To be involved in any creative venture at UCL is inspiring, with each experience only growing my intrigue about how a show is forged.

Specifically, being involved in a show at the Bloomsbury Studio, where I saw the impact the space had on the cast, crew, and audience. As a small space, the Studio provides comfort for cast and crew to experiment and invent. To create new art in a unique theatre and challenge myself in a new role as your Studio Theatre Officer does nothing but thrill me.

I would be an amazing Studio Officer because of my dedication to this society and theatre. Because I pride myself on organization, productive communication, punctuality, and never missing a deadline. Because I can guarantee my commitment to ensuring each Bloomsbury Studio show functions seamlessly, and is therefore capable of creating more impact, teaching more technical value, and empowering more expression.
