From starting at UCL, I knew nothing about theatre; I am now at a point where I work professionally - this proves that Stage Crew really can give you opportunities in life. I want to be part of providing students with this.
I have worked on over 17 Blooms shows during my time in Stage Crew and in a variety of roles, from Designer (Opera 2026) to Sound Designer (Spamalot, Jazz 2025/ 2026, Carousel and CSM (Opera 2025), Director/ Producer (Billy & Co). I have gained a great understanding of how the theatre works, the requirements of each role and where I could be most supportive. I know what I would need to do in my role to be successful in supporting Stage Crew society. My role would involve representing the interests of the society to other producing societies, wider ArtsUCL/ SU, and Bloomsbury staff. Having worked on countless shows building relationships across these groups, and as Arts and Humanities Faculty Representative interacting with faculty and wider SU staff, I understand the complexity of our society and would be able to facilitate conversations.
I would prioritise:
- Accessibility – I aim to support those who may struggle to access the theatre due to disability, experience and confidence.
- Supporting the wider committee – Overseeing that we are all completing our tasks in line with our goals
- Training programmes – Designed to give new students stepping stones into the world of theatre
- Stage Crew interest – Keeping our interests at the heart of all conversations.
Hi Everyone!
I'm Rahul, a 2nd year CS student, and I'm running to be your President for next year.
Stage Crew has been a huge part of my time at UCL, from holding lead roles to serving as Equipment Officer this year. It has enabled me to work professionally and intern at DiGiCo, and I want to help others do the same.
As Equipment Officer I introduced logging for 300+ pieces of equipment, built an archival system for the 500GB+ of data we generate annually, and helped procure over £6k of new equipment. Through committee and crewing I've built strong relationships with performing societies and can communicate to the Union on the issues that matter to us.
As President, I'd focus on:
- More training. Workshops, extra training weeks, and collaborating with providers like ETC, DiGiCo, and Orbital.
- Stronger operations. Build on my archival/logging work so knowledge and resources are accessible to everyone.
- More Term 1 opportunities. With less Blooms access, I'll work with performing societies to find alternative venues, giving freshers an early foothold and keeping the community active.
- Paid work and industry connections. Push for more paid opportunities and build a network to support members with job hunting beyond UCL.
Stage Crew is a unique and special community and I want to ensure it stays that way. A big part of that is continuing to build a stronger relationship with the Union and one that works for our members. I'd love the chance to give back to something that's given me so much.
