Rahul Kumar

Hi Everyone!

I'm Rahul, a 2nd year CS student, and I'm running to be Bloomsbury Theatre Officer for next year.

My background is primarily in Sound and Stage Management, but I've been lucky enough to gain experience across all departments in the Blooms which has given me a broad understanding of how the theatre runs and where things can go smoother. In particular, working across roles as a Sound Designer and DSM to a Lighting/Sound Assistant has given me a clearer picture of what I'd do the same and differently.

As BTO I'd work on:

  • Resources for lead roles. This would include Templates and shared materials for first time lead crew members so less gets lost between shows.
  • Better communication between prod and Stage Crew. A clearer system for passing information across so crews aren't making last-minute changes or having to make technical adjustments during prod week.
  • More structured support during show weeks. I'll work with the Blooms technicians to make sure help is available at set times, and carving out time for hands-on learning before tech begins so crew feel confident stepping into their roles.
  • Being present. I'd make a point of being around during shows to help with any technical requirements that come up, so there's always someone on hand who knows the space and can step in if needed.

The Blooms is one of the key spaces for Stage Crew and I want to make sure every prod week is as smooth, educational, and enjoyable as possible, for freshers and existing members alike.

Hannah Stanley

From starting at UCL, I knew nothing about theatre; I am now at a point where I work professionally - this proves that Stage Crew really can give you opportunities in life. I want to be part of providing students with this.

The Bloomsbury Theatre officer goes beyond just admin; it is the foundation supporting the concept to realisation.

I have worked on over 17 Blooms shows during my time in Stage Crew and in a variety of roles, from Designer (Opera 2026) to Sound Designer (Spamalot, Jazz 2025/ 2026, Carousel and CSM (Opera 2025), Director/ Producer (Billy & Co). I have gained a great understanding of how the theatre works, the requirements of each role and where I could be most supportive. I know what I would need to do in my role to be successful in supporting Stage Crew society. My role would involve me being a bridge between the technicians, Stage Crew and producing societies and the SU. This is something which working on Blooms shows, my role as treasurer, external officer, and working with a magnitude of societies, has prepared me well for.

I would prioritise:

  • Accessibility – I aim to support those who may struggle to access the theatre due to disability, experience and confidence.
  • Prod/ Crew communication – embedding early conversation and technical advice.
  • Training programmes – Designed to give new students stepping stones into the world of theatre
  • Design - Tailored support to develop design within the theatre to prepare lighting, audiovisual, and set designers.
