Marialena Iacovides

Hi, I’m Mar, a 2nd year PhD student in Physics. I would love to be your Welfare Officer again for 2026-27! You may have seen me at training, matches or at social squash! I’ve really loved my time with UCL squash over these last two years, and I’ve completely rediscovered my passion for the sport thanks to all the great people I’ve met here. Because of this, I’m keen to continue to support you all as best I can.

What can I do for you?

  • As someone who has been playing squash for a very long time, and has also been on other sports committees, I am highly aware of the potential welfare and interpersonal issues that can arise in sports clubs, and I know how to respond appropriately and maturely.
  • I feel very strongly that everyone should have someone to turn to if any issues arise, and I am always willing to lend an ear. I’m always down for a chat, and I’m very approachable and empathetic.
  • I am good at communicating, and easy to get in touch with - I have high attendance at sessions and always respond quickly to messages.
  • I am keen to work closely with other committee members to ensure we maintain a positive and respectful club culture.
  • Generally, I want to ensure that UCL squash continues being a friendly, inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.
