I bring first-hand experience as an active member of the UCL Ice Hockey team and a former Sports Rep in my first year. Competing in BUIHA, I understand the realities of minority sports: long travel, limited ice time, and balancing high commitment with academics. I also bring proven advocacy, organisation, and communication skills developed through committee and representative roles across UCL.
If elected, I hope to better represent minority and performance sports such as ice hockey, which often face unique challenges in funding, facilities, and visibility. Drawing on my experience in the UCL Ice Hockey team and BUIHA competitions, I want to improve communication between clubs and the Union, advocate for fair access to resources, and ensure that team culture, player wellbeing, and competitive commitment are properly recognised across all sports.
Because I represent the minority voice of TeamUCL. As an active member of the UCL Ice Hockey team, I understand the realities of team culture, national competition, and the funding challenges faced by minority sports. Alongside this, I bring strong advocacy experience from serving as a Sports Rep and Academic Representative, where I have successfully raised student concerns and worked with the Union to turn them into concrete outcomes. I am committed, approachable, and ready to speak up for sports students at UCL.
Hi, I’m Harry, Founder and President of UCL Polo Club.
While at UCL I:
• Founded and developed a new sports club, gaining SU affiliation and organising training, fixtures and events.
• Experience managing club finances, funding requests, sponsorship and Union systems.
• Experience working with external organisations, including JP Morgan and the British Army to create opportunities for members.
• Worked closely with the Students’ Union to support club development and funding.
Building a sports club from scratch has given me a clear understanding of the challenges committees face running sport at UCL.
Accessibility
Fewer than 30 per cent of UCL students take part in sport. Cost remains one of the biggest barriers. I want to work with the Union to direct more funding towards reducing participation costs and supporting beginner opportunities.
Efficiency
Committees spend too much time navigating administrative systems. I want to push for better digital processes and automation of routine purchase requests and reimbursements.
Visibility
I want TeamUCL social media to share weekly results from all sports and celebrate standout performances across every level.
Founding and running a sports club has given me first-hand experience of organising training, competitions, finances and events.
From that experience, I believe the biggest barrier preventing many students from taking part in sport at UCL is cost, whether that is transport, equipment or entry fees.
I want to use my experience to push for greater financial support that helps individual students take part in sport and reduce these barriers so more people feel able to get involved in every sport.
Money should never be a barrier to students participating in any sports. It is our job to fix that.
I have been a member of the UCL Men's Rugby Club for almost 2 years, as well as one of the Sports Reps this year.
As a Sports Rep, I have liaised with sports clubs and TeamUCL to improve the day to day operations of the community. This role has allowed me to talk to so many valued members of the TeamUCL community, and has opened my eyes to what it needs.
Additionally, I have an extensive knowledge of the Students' Union and how they operate both through my role as a Sports Rep, but also as a Cheese Grater journalist. This means I can effectively push policies and hold the SU to account.
- Improve quality of life for sports clubs: I would want to offer greater guidance for Presidents and Treasurers on the reimbursements system as well as a review of the system itself, improvement of storage and training facilities, and generally greater communication between clubs and the SU.
- Expand social leagues and Project Active: The social leagues and Project Active have been great in engaging people who don't usually play sports. I would look to expand this for more people and more sports.
- Recognition of success: Greater communication from TeamUCL highlighting success and achievements.
I have dedicated a significant amount of my time as a UCL student to standing up for the student community. As a lifelong rugby player and a fan of many sports, I believe sports can be one of the best ways to unite people. Sports at UCL has so much potential, and I will push the Union to ensure that the voices of clubs and athletes are heard by the powers that be, so that we can further unlock the full potential of sports at this university. I believe I have an extreme unique set of skills and experiences which allows me to effectively push policies in what can be an extremely bureaucratic SU.
