Being a part of the Shakespeare company this year has been my highlight and completely changed my experience at university. It has integrated me into the student life seamlessly and has allowed me to meet some of my closest friends. This year I was lucky enough to play Rosalind in ‘As You Like It” and was also a part of the Richard II production in which I played Bishop of Carlisle but this passion for Shakespeare began when got the part of Helena in Year 6 despite my short height. Because this society has done so much good for me, I would love to give back and be able to provide the same social opportunities for the next year. I think Shakespeare can seem quite daunting to people and so I would love to be able to create an open community that's welcoming and encouraging to learn more and experiment with his work but also just to create a fun social network. For example, we could organise trips to the globe, Shakespeare workshops to better understand texts, pub crawls with the name Shakespeare in them and collaboration with other societies to broaden the community. I am quite social and love meeting new people so want to provide spaces for others to do the same. I have had leadership positions in the past so understand what it takes to carry out such a role and have organised other events before such as a monthly residency I do with my band.
