I have been involved in theatre all my life and thus know very well how special the community it creates is. I feel ArtsUCL is no different, and I would love the opportunity to be at the forefront of such a community by taking a leading role in ShakeSoc. If I were to be ShakeSoc's President, my main focus would be on outreach. I feel the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries are often treated with trepidation by those unfamiliar to them: I would love to take a leading role in making such work appear less intimidating in order to get more people involved in the ShakeSoc community. I would work closely with the Social Secretary to host events that would capitalise off of the excitement of freshers: for instance, I would host a social where newcomers could speak to those who have been involved in previous ShakeSoc productions as I feel this would encourage those unsure about the society to put forward bids or audition for future shows. Hosting events that capitalise off moments of modern pop culture surrounding Shakespeare (perhaps in a ball themed around the 1996 Romeo & Juliet film or Saltburn's Midsummer Night's Dream party) I feel would also help in drawing in new society members. Having been given the opportunity to direct 'The Duchess of Malfi' at the Bloomsbury Studio with the help of the ShakeSoc committee, I would love to similarly support budding directors and producers and feel confident that I would be able to use skills gained in directing to offer guidance.
