Lawinia Banas

I'm standing to be Treasurer for UCL Science Magazine as I'm passionate in their goal of encouraging scientific journalism, especially by promoting interdisciplinary research. As a contributor to the technology section of the Science Magazine, I was inspired to share my thoughts on the hydrogen economy and the clean energy sector. I'm hoping in the future to expand my research topics into biology and neuroscience in the near future and add to the ever-expanding content published by UCL Science Magazine. It's rewarding to be part of a larger community of science students who too are interested in sharing their topics of interest whilst inspiring others to expand on it. UCL Science Magazine society has granted me a space to engage with science outside of my degree and meet people on a variety of engaging degree programmes. As treasurer, I hope I'd be able to organise funds in a way that would increase our collaboration with other science-related societies, hosting of engaging workshops and provide more students with access to careers related to scientific writing and research. With previous experience leading an Environmental Society during Sixth Form, I think I've engaged with situations where I've honed by leadership, planning and organisational skills by hosting presentations and creating social media content. I think this would be relevant as your treasurer to ensure events are co-ordinated effectively by sorting finances. Hope you'll consider me as your future treasurer!
