Lucy Abbey

I have been doing athletics for three years, but one year ago, something shifted. I decided to commit to athletics fully, and have not looked back. I trained every day, sometimes with my group, often alone, and somewhere in that process, I fell completely in love with the sport. And that love is what has continued to drive me. I was not a natural on the track, but I was coachable and willing to grind. I broke school records and earned a national ranking in Belgium. I credit these results not just to consistency, but to the genuine joy and purpose I feel when I am on the track. It is something I don't find anywhere else. That passion and commitment are exactly what I would give to this team as captain. Not just structure or accountability, but an atmosphere where athletes are reminded why they showed up at the track in the first place. I believe that enjoyment is contagious when someone believes in it enough, and I believe in it completely. I don’t think that a captain's job is to be the best in the room, but to raise the ceiling for everyone in it, and to make sure every athlete knows what they're capable of. Whether you are as invested in athletics as I am or simply love to run, I will show up for the team with the same belief and energy I bring to the track every single day.

As someone starting track this year I think the current captains made me feel really welcome and made my experience way better especially at the start and I want to continue that if I’m captain. Also being captains a flex. Also I think it would be fun and I would do a good job.

  • I've taken part in most RAX events, particularly trainings, and I improved quickly. I smashed my 5k PB from over 22 mins to 19'34 thanks to RAX Track Trainings, Social Runs and Long Runs. That's the fastest improving I've made since I ran from 2023. I know how it feels, and I want more people feeling it too. I also led the Guitar Club back in high school, so  organising things and communicating with people comes naturally to me.
  • I'm aiming for a career in sports industry, so I strongly want to contribute to RAX, and gain  hands-on experience. I’ve seen how fast Trail Running is growing as a sub‑category of running, and I've noticed so many opportunities in the industry. But I still need real experience like what RAX offers to grow. So definitely, I'll take this seriously.

I think becoming one of the athletics captain is pretty cool.
