Hey lovely people! This past year I have had the time of my life chasing an egg-shaped ball around a muddy field with you all, and would love to continue building our wholesome rugby family next year as your new Welfare Officer. I've had a think, and here are some things I'd prioritise:
- Rugby families - a great way for us to look after our new fresh and strengthen team bonds
- Return to play pathway - as a certified concussion baddie (and first aider), I know how important injury care is so would work with the captain to make sure everyone is looked after :)
- Awesome sober socials - even the most hardened SCALA warriors need a break sometimes. I'm thinking bake-off, Taskmaster, picnics and much more...
- Shouting out player wins on and off the pitch - let's celebrate crazy tackles, match debuts, first tries and people who go the extra mile for the team
When I joined the team last September, I was pretty new to the game so was absolutely bricking it (name a scarier person than Abi Hicks, I dare you) but can honestly say it was the best decision I made all year. Whilst I'm not the speediest winger or scariest tackler, I reckon I could do a good job at being a friendly face for both new and returning members. I truly believe that joining a women’s rugby team can change your life for the better and would be honoured to help maintain the sense of community that makes our amazing sport so special.
Love you all, Sophie xx
