Pure Krav Maga Club: Welfare Officer

Hi everyone! I’m Sonia, a second-year biomed student, and I'm excited to run for welfare officer! I joined Krav Maga this year and it’s genuinely one of the best things I’ve done at uni - it’s made me more aware of potential risks when I'm out, and more confident about how to protect myself if needed. Having attended training regularly, I understand sessions can feel intense, especially when you’re balancing weekly training with academics and everything else going on (and sometimes fighting with someone you’ve just met!).

If elected Welfare Officer, I’d set up an anonymous welfare form so members can share concerns or suggestions comfortably, helping keep the society welcoming and inclusive for everyone. I’d also introduce clear training guidance to promote a culture of boundaries and respect - for example, reminding people of the importance of tapping out, and making sure everyone knows who to speak to if something doesn’t feel right. I’ll also work closely with the rest of the committee to keep welfare embedded in both training and socials!
