After joining this society for a year and participating in many activities, I want to take a more proactive role in organizing a community that truly supports its members. I understand that being a society president is much more than about planning events calendar, it’s about noticing and effectively communicating our collective needs to the Student Union and UCL, providing students with a better experience at UCL.
As a student myself, I understand how overwhelming the academic pressure can be. I noticed that the transition to academic essay writing could be a major struggle for many freshers, and it’s an area where we can provide impactful help (since we are a departmental academic society). If I am elected, I will aim to launch collaborative academic initiatives, such as peer-review clinics, where volunteers from higher years can guide lower-year students through academic writing. Alongside the academic perspectives, I will continue to carry out career development activities like the panels held by my peers this year, which have been very helpful to me and I am very grateful to them. I’m also excited to organize relaxed, fun events that playfully tie back to psychology and education, providing our members with the perfect opportunity to unwind and socialize.
If I am elected, I will leverage my position to work with our committees, lecturers and the SU to realize these peer-support events, ensuring our society becomes a true hub for academic and personal growth.
