Pokémon Society: Welfare Officer

Hey everyone! I'm sure most of you in the Pokémon Society know me by now, but for those who don't, my name is Wayne Choi, current Welfare Officer and 2026 Welfare Officer nominee.

I am nominating myself for the position of Welfare Officer again because the society has grown very important to me in the two years I have studied at UCL. In my first year, being a part of this society was how I met many of my first university friends, and I felt indebted to help the Society flourish in my second year. Having been the Welfare Officer for almost a year, I can confidently say I do not regret my choice. Being able to help people feel comfortable and accepted the way I did in my first year has been incredibly rewarding for me, and I wouldn't have given it up for anything.

As for my other qualifications, I have previously been part of my secondary school's Queer-Straight Alliance and a founding member of its Wellbeing initiative. In both of those, I was responsible for dealing with instances of bullying; I am proud to say that the communication and empathy skills I learnt served me well this year. I also feel that having been the Welfare Officer for this current year has given me first-hand experience with how the systems in UCL work with regard to this role.
