Christine Li

Hi everyone, I’m Christine, a second-year Biological Sciences undergraduate student from China. This society has brought me immense joy, and I can confidently say that I’ve experienced some of the best moments of my life at its events. If possible, I would love to share this joy with more people by continuing to maintain a safe and inclusive space for everyone who enjoys nature here at UCL.

🌱 I am also an experienced and passionate birdwatcher, and I would love to organise related events, such as bird surveys! I used to do a lot of volunteer work related to bird surveying back in China and here at UK. By voting for me as the Welfare Officer, you’ll gain access to a range of birdwatching events 😉

To me, conservation is about care, which must also extend to every single person in our society. I am standing for Welfare Officer because I believe that protecting the environment goes hand in hand with ensuring our society is fair, equal and welcoming to everyone. As a person of colour and a queer individual, I have experienced first-hand what it feels like to be treated as an afterthought. To ensure that no one feels this way, I will work ensure our society is one where every member feels respected, supported, and able to participate.

I am deeply passionate about protecting our natural world, but I believe meaningful conservation is only possible through making learning about nature accessible. As Welfare Officer, I will make sure all society events are organised with equality at the forefront. I will actively advocate for inclusive practices within the committee and create an environment where members feel comfortable approaching me with their concerns, because community is our strongest tool for change.
