Nature and Conservation Society: President

Hiii! My name is Maddie, I am a 2nd year BA Geographer, and you may recognize me as the communications officer for the past year! 

Some context about me as a person (to make this whole president title less scary lol) is …

 My great great uncle (maybe there’s another great in there idk) was the first man to die rolling down Niagara Falls in a barrel (humble brag) 

My favourite memory of nature is tracking down and petting the mountain sheep when I hiked the Matterhorn base camp ( another humble brag ) 

In terms of conservation interest I regularly volunteer at Heath Hands ( a conservation group on Hampstead heath) as well as developing my interest in ecology both in lessons and outside of them. I do a lot of walking and hiking too so I’m always open to having conversations about nature-based walks and the kind of fauna and flora expected. 

 I want to lead not with an iron fist, but a green hand (lol I love a lame dad joke sorry) , and implore to implement sustainable and environmentally conscious solutions and practices into society events and conversations, as I believe that consistency in ideals is the most important thing to uphold other than society wide unity! 

If you choose me I will only continue to learn through myself and your own committee suggestions how I can keep adapting and evolving the society in the future, while valuing each idea :) 🌱
