As a Muslim women from an underrepresented background having completed a placement year where I gained first hand experience in working in corporate environment, I deeply resonate with the values of this society. During my placement year, I have often felt excluded from networking and social events by choosing my faith first and have frequently had to explain and defend my beliefs. From experiencing the challenges of working in a corporate environment as a Muslim women, I strongly believe it is important to push for more Muslim women to have increased access to their desired career and break down potential barriers. This society is dedicated to exactly that and I am motivated to be part of this community by serving in an active role as treasury where I can enable the success of career driven events throughout the academic year.
My previous experience as Chief of Events and Outreach at UCL Economic Tribune, combined with knowledge gained through my economics degree, equips me with the right skills for this role.
I’m standing for Treasurer of Muslimah Careers Society because I’ve personally experienced how valuable this society’s events are. Attending the career panels and workshops really helped me gain clarity, confidence, and practical insight into professional pathways I hadn’t previously considered, but also how to balance my career alongside my religion. As a Maths and Physics student, I’m naturally analytical and comfortable working with numbers, budgets, and spreadsheets, and I understand the importance of careful planning and transparency when managing finances. I want to use those skills to ensure the society can continue delivering impactful, accessible events that genuinely support and empower Muslim women, just as they supported me.
