Yumi Tye

Hi everyone! I’m Yumi, a first year Biomedical Sciences student eager to help make the MedTech society an even more welcoming place.

After attending my first panel, I remember being in awe but also feeling slightly overwhelmed by the level of expertise displayed before me. Internships, start-ups and the like felt far out of reach. As welfare officer, I aim to help students feeling a similar way settle into the society, whether that be first-year students, new society members, or current society members.

I plan to focus on:

  • Including more social events allowing students to connect with each other more outside a business setting (e.g. through pub quizzes and coffee mornings)
  • Including more workshops focused on early career development to make our talks less intimidating
  • Recruiting new members and being a someone that existing members can come to with any ideas, questions or concerns

My experience working with neurodivergent trainees and shadowing across multiple hospitals has taught me to be a friendly and proactive listener who will make sure that your voice reaches the MedTech committee. Having been a leader of two clubs, I am someone who prioritizes the opinions of my teammates and the wellbeing of club members. I hope to bring this attitude and my skills to good use within the MedTech society and I’d love your support in making that happen.

Let's make the next year even more memorable!

Julie Lee

Medtech is perhaps unique in that it is a mixing pot of a variety of students from a multitude of departments and degrees, and the diverse environment really fosters a sense of belonging, innovation and interdisciplinary learning that is hard to beat. I hope to contribute to this society to the best of my ability, maintaining these amazing advantages and continuing to nurture the welcoming environment in the society.

I am standing as I have had the invaluable opportunity to join a wide variety of MedTech's events this year as a first year MPharm student, and have been thoroughly enraptured by the MedTech events' warm and welcoming environment. Throughout the coding workshops, various talks, mentorship program and more, the medtech team supported each and every member, ensuring their enjoyment and giving us invaluable opportunities for learning.

I would be honored to have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the wellbeing of my fellow students in medtech and the medtech team themselves, supporting them through the challenges of academic life and personal issues to create a society where mental health and wellbeing support is not only normal but routine. I believe that through my dedication and empathy, I will be able to better serve the members of this tightly-knit community and ultimately create an environment where new students feel comfortable learning and feel supported throughout their academic journey.

Thank you for your consideration!
