I am very determined in mahjong and would love to take on the leadership role as welfare officer. I am determined to make mahjong society even better encourging members to participate more in events
Hello everyone,
I’m Lincoln and I’m excited to nominate myself for the position of Welfare Officer. My passion for mahjong has led me to spend two amazing years with the society. I'm looking to take the next step forward from being an active member to a leading contributor within the society, and I believe that the role of Welfare Officer is well suited to my goals for the following year.
As Welfare Officer, I will primarily focus on ensuring that all members feel comfortable and included. I bring a wealth of experience in behind-the-scenes work at UCL student societies, having coordinated large-scale collaborative events such as hackathons which involve clear communication and extensive planning. I am committed to the society's long-term growth and intend to explore partnership opportunities that support larger events and broaden our impact. I'm very eager to realize my vision of connecting Mahjong Society to the wider UCL community and establishing us as a vibrant and welcoming space for all mahjong enthusiasts.
Hello, my name is Aidan. I am running for Welfare Officer because I have truly enjoyed every session, not only the game itself, but also the warmth and encouragement I received from the committee members. Their care has created a welcoming environment that feels like home, and I hope to carry this spirit forward into the coming year and make the society even better.
8 years ago, I began learning mahjong by sitting beside my grandpa, carefully observing him play with his friends. Growing up with the game and becoming skilled in both HK and TW style mahjong has given me a deep familiarity with its rhythm and atmosphere. I understand how to balance a lively environment with the focused intensity that makes mahjong exciting, and I hope to bring this energy to the society through strategic, enjoyable, and welcoming sessions.
Over the years, mahjong has strengthened my patience, ability to think critically under pressure, assess probabilities, and adapt to change. Together with my experience as a transition and maths mentor in sixth form, I have developed strong communication, caring, and problem-solving skills. These experiences have prepared me to listen actively, support members when needed, and contribute responsibly to the wellbeing of the society.
If selected, I will:
- organise more beginner workshops and both intra- and inter-university tournaments
- ensure every member feels supported and included
- collaborate with more societies
- make more tickets available for each mahjong sessions
My name is Liu Yijing (Lucas), a Pharmacy student at UCL. This is my second year in our Mahjong Society. Since I joined last September, I have attended every single event. I truly love mahjong, and this society has already become my home away from home. I am really grateful for the care and support from all committee seniors, and that motivates me to contribute more to our big family.
Today I am standing to be your Welfare Officer. I am a person who truly cares about every member in our society. I am always willing to reach out and listen when someone feels sad, stressed, upset or angry. I enjoy talking with people heart‑to‑heart, and I have helped several of my friends through difficult and depressive periods by listening patiently, supporting them, and staying by their side.
If I become Welfare Officer, I will create a warm, safe and comfortable environment for everyone. You can share any bad feelings, worries or unhappy experiences with me anytime. I will listen carefully, keep your trust, and try my best to help you solve problems or simply cheer you up. My goal is to make sure everyone can play mahjong happily, freely and relaxing in our society, without pressure or unhappiness. I want every single one of you to leave our events with a smile on your face.
I will never let you down.
Please support me — Lucas, your Welfare Officer candidate!
Thank you!
