Hi, I’m Dylon, and I’m running for Treasurer!
Many of you would recognise me as your Engagement Officer, hosting workshops, creating puzzles and helping teach beginners during weekly socials. Moving forward and running for Treasurer, I am fully committed to only spending the society’s funds on what YOU want, and I have heard you!
From the feedback collected and from my contributions and suggestions as Engagement Officer, our Preliminary Mahjong Tournament had a huge array of prizes, ranging from keychains for all participants, Mahjong cards for Top 8, Mahjong cushions for Top 4, and even an entire Mahjong set for 1st place! With me as Treasurer, I assure you our prizes for any future tournaments will be as attractive, if not even more attractive than this year’s!
I will also push for quality-of-life improvements to the society as many of our members have suggested, such as tablecloths, junk mats, and ensure all our sets are fully equipped with the necessary accessories. This year, through my efforts, all our sets now come fully equipped with round wind indicators!
Many of you also enjoyed our collaborations with Bubble Tea Society with £3 Bubble Tea, Tea Society with free Chinese tea, and Singapore Society with free Lunar New Year snacks. Be ready to expect more future collaborations and events with food and drinks too!
In a growing society with hundreds of members, vote for me if you want your funds to be used for better prizes, better quality-of-life and for more collaborations!
Hi, I am Bernard, your current Welfare Officer and an experienced player in both Hong Kong-style and Riichi Mahjong. I love this game as it’s demanding on both skill and luck - discard one wrong tile and it may be game!
This year, I have actively prepared and participated in regular sessions, instructed new players to play the game, co-hosted the two mahjong tournaments, and so on. I always try my best to uphold the Mahjong spirit and ensure everyone enjoyed our sessions, whilst also gaining much insight in the logistics and daily operations of our society.
As I will soon enter my final year at UCL, I really hope I can continue my dedication to Mahjong Soc by running for treasurer next year. I believe that all UCL students should be welcome to our society with just a small membership fee, to come play mahjong, socialise, relax and have fun!
If I am elected, I will strive to maintain existing member benefits like low-fare bubble tea socials and cheap rental schemes, but also ensure we have the money for more refreshments (snacks, pizzas and drinks), upgrading our mahjong equipment and better gifts for competition winners, all whilst keeping the society’s funds under control.
Thank you for reading and please vote for me now as your next treasurer of Mahjong Society. Your support is greatly appreciated!!
Hi! I'm Aidan, a Year 2 student studying Maths, and I would love to serve the members of Mahjong Society as their Treasurer. I've had my experience in handling numbers, and unlike my usual mahjong games of 0 wins 0 losses, I promise that everyone coming to our sessions will have many wins.
As a committee member the past two years, I have been able to familiarise myself with the daily ongoings of Mahjong Society. I have been here for many events and helped the previous years with their numbers, such as during the UCL preliminaries for the Inter-Uni Mahjong Competition and the Chinese New Year Collaboration with many other societies.
I will ensure that the funds for all our future events, collabs and tournaments will be secured, and the price of every ticket will be as low as possible. I will strive for the most amount of benefit that we can afford for every single person attending our events, for example food, drink, and mahjong merchandise, such as the ones given out during our competitions and the prizes for the winners.
Most importantly, I swear to keep our cash flow transparent and trustworthy. All the money that you have entrusted with us will only be used to increase your enjoyment, and as Treasurer, I will make sure that it will only be going back to you.
When I first joined Mahjong Society, I was blessed with a wonderful community and service that made me feel welcome, and now I need your help to let me have the chance to serve you back. Thank you for your time.
I’m running for Treasurer because I believe good financial management isn’t just about numbers — it’s about making sure everyone benefits from what our society can offer. Having studied Accounting in high school, I’m comfortable working with budgets, tracking expenses, and keeping records organised. I understand how important transparency and accuracy are, especially when handling money that belongs to all of us. But beyond that, I see the Treasurer’s role as making sure our funds are used in ways that genuinely improve members’ experiences.
To me, budgeting isn’t about limiting what we can do — it’s about planning wisely so we can do more. Whether that means keeping ticket prices affordable, allocating enough resources for bigger tournaments, or ensuring we have quality equipment and smooth events, I want our finances to support everyone, from complete beginners to regular players. Mahjong has taught me to think ahead, stay patient, and make careful decisions under pressure — skills that are surprisingly useful when managing money too. Every choice should be considered, balanced, and fair.
If elected, I will:
• Keep our financial records clear and transparent
• Budget carefully to support both weekly sessions and larger events
• Prioritise affordability and accessibility
• Look into funding or sponsorship opportunities where possible
I want to help create the society where finances quietly support great experiences , so everyone can simply focus on enjoying the game
