Mahjong Society: Secretary

I am standing for the role of Secretary for the Mahjong Society because I am passionate about supporting the smooth running of our society and helping to create an organised, welcoming environment for all our members. 

Having started playing both Hong Kong Style and Taiwanese Style mahjong at the age of 10, I believe that Mahjong is not only a game, but also a social and cultural experience. Behind every enjoyable session, I recognise how important organisation and strong communication are in ensuring each session runs smoothly.

With previous experience as a secretary, I am adept at handling administrative tasks, coordinating schedules, and maintaining clear communication within teams. I understand how important it is to keep accurate records and maintain transparency with all members in order to build a strong foundation for a successful society.

If selected, I would focus on:

• Managing communications effectively so that members and external partners receive timely responses
• Supporting event organisation by keeping track of attendance, bookings, and important deadlines
• Maintaining well-organised records to ensure a smooth transition to future committees.

With my organisational skills, reliability and strong communication abilities, I believe I would be a dedicated and effective secretary for Mahjong Society. I am committed to supporting the committee and helping the society continue to grow and thrive.

Hi! I am Bernard, an experienced player in both Hong Kong-style and Riichi Mahjong, and I am privileged to be your Welfare Officer this year. Hopefully you will have seen me in one of the regular or collab sessions, the two tournaments, tutorial workshops, or even at Phineas!

Now that I have been in the committee over the year, I have gained experience on organising and setting up the socials, listening to feedback, and working with my other committee members to achieve success in our events. I am compassionate and easy-going, and able to help you with any needs over our sessions.

As your secretary next year, I hope to upkeep the Mahjong spirit by actively participating in socials, encouraging players to learn and supporting them when needed. I am also ready to take over lots of behind-the-scenes work, including meeting attendance and minutes, spreadsheets, contacting other societies and universities, and many more!
