Magic Society: President

I am standing for President of the UCL Magic Society because magic has shaped the way I see the world. I first experienced it at five years old, while recovering from surgery on my hand. One moment, a family member was beside me; the next, they had vanished. That sense of impossibility sparked something in me. Over the past seven years, I have immersed myself in illusion — studying technique, refining sleight of hand, and creating my own original effects.

At one stage, I stepped away from magic. I had plateaued and no longer felt challenged. Joining UCL’s Magic Society reignited my commitment to the craft. Surrounded by skilled performers, I refined my technical precision, strengthened the structure of my routines, and developed greater confidence in performance, allowing me to better engage an audience.

As President, I will build on the strong foundation the society already has. I will encourage greater originality within our intermediate sessions by creating space for members to develop and share their own techniques. At the same time, I will ensure our beginner workshops are structured clearly — whether focused on teaching fundamentals or showcasing performance — so that every member leaves knowing what they have gained. Above all, I want the society to remain a place where members feel supported, challenged, and excited to perform.

Actually, what on earth should I write here?

Uhh, hi I'm Marvin? If you come on Friday, you probably know me, but if not, you probably also saw me perform during the winter trivia show, brainwashing you about the bible and disloyal men in relationships. If you weren't there as well then I guess too bad.

It tells me to write why am I standing? I tried to put my CV into ChatGPT and generate this thing, but then realised my CV has nothing to do with magic. I guess I have been doing magic for two years now? Not the best at it but I really like learning and performing to my friends and I'll try my best? 

Oh but the main reason is cuz being in the committee gets you performance opportunities to get paid handsomely by UCL, I won't turn down money 🫶.
