Victoria Lam

Hi everyone, I am Victoria!

I’m running for Events Officer because I have thoroughly enjoyed every session at Knitting Society, and I would love to become an active committee member who continues to shape and look after one of the most welcoming and comforting spaces on campus.

Throughout Year 1, I have been fostering my leadership and teamworking skills through multiple projects such as SRI Hackathon, IOE Employer Challenges and UCL Career workshops. My organisational and communication skills are also evident in my role as Academic Representative for my course.

I remember in my first sessions, it was heartwarming to see us all come together to create handmade art, chat, and share our work. I felt so relaxed and seen, among like-minded others.

So, when elected, my vision is simple:

Continue Knit Soc's success in creating a cosy, inclusive space where everyone, from complete beginners to experienced crafters, feels inspired, supported, and excited to come each week.

My Goals:

  • Continuing relationships and networks with other societies for collaboration
  • Continue to spread the love of handmade crafts
  • Increase awareness of small artists by promoting members’ artwork on our page
  • Engage in community: take in suggestions on what activities to host next!

Societies I’m interested in collaborating with to enrich our community:

  • LGBTQ+ Network
  • Volunteering
  • Big Help Out
  • Street Aid
  • Mental Health
  • Mankind - Men's Mental Health Society

I joined knitting society this year with the goal of learning how to knit, having already known how to crochet. I quickly found that the workshops had been very engaging and enjoyable to attend. Having experienced this I hope to be able to create a similarly positive experience for members next year.

I am a very organised person and enjoy planning ahead, which I believe is key to successful event coordination. In sixth form I spent a year running a club in which my role involved planning and structuring sessions in advance. This experience helped me develop strong organisational, time-management, and leadership skills that I believe would be well fit for this role.

Overall, I am committed, reliable, and most importantly enthusiastic. I would love the opportunity to contribute to the society and help ensure it continues to be as enjoyable and welcoming for others as it has been for me.
