Hi! I’m Phoenix and I’ve been knitting since I was 7 and learnt basic crochet when I was 15. I’m pretty much always knitting, even in lectures! As well as being on the committee as Equipment Officer this last term, I have been teaching many friends and family members how to knit for years, so I have plenty of experience with it.
I really enjoy volunteering for many different charity events. I have run many fundraisers in the past in my spare time for different charities, including Chance for Growth and Refuge Community Kitchen. I also regularly knit items to donate to charity, including Battersea Dogs and Cats and Innocent Smoothies. I would love to continue to help others through KnitSoc by organising events and fundraisers.
I’d love to be Charity Officer because starting crochet this year showed me how powerful creative activities can be for wellbeing. Focusing on stitches instead of spiralling over deadlines has been my form of productive procrastination, but make it wholesome, and it’s made me realise that something simple can have a real impact. I’d love to channel that into initiatives that benefit people beyond Knit Soc.
Through volunteering at a cancer charity, I’ve seen first-hand how much time and care can matter. Even small gestures can make someone’s day feel lighter. That experience stayed with me and gave me insight into how charities operate, as well as the confidence to maintain clear, professional communication with external organisations. I’d love to bring that perspective into Knit Soc and use creativity to support others.
I’m keen to take initiative with fundraising by organising stitch nights, themed events, and larger joint projects across campus. There’s real potential to create events that are impactful and well-promoted, where people feel excited to get involved and understand what they’re contributing to (how does another UCL Knit Soc x UCL Baking Soc collab sound? 😉).
Knit Soc already has such a welcoming atmosphere, and I’d love to channel that into something with tangible impact. If we can make cute things, raise money, and do some good at the same time, that feels like a win.
Hi everyone! I’m Ally (your current Charity Officer!) and I’m hoping to run again for the role next year.
Being part of the committee this year has been such a rewarding and enjoyable experience. From helping out at beginners’ workshops to running themed sessions, I’ve really loved teaching people how to crochet and seeing beginners improve over sessions. It’s been especially fulfilling to watch members turn their new skills into projects they’re proud of. This year, we’ve hosted several fundraisers, all of which were successful. It’s been amazing to see how our shared passion for knitting and crochet can create meaningful impact for charitable causes. If re-elected, I’d love to build on this year’s initiatives by organising even more creative fundraising events and collaborating with new charities.
Thank you so much for your support, and I’d love the opportunity to continue serving as your Charity Officer next year!
