I have a passion for social change on a global scale, ever since studying A-level geography and realising how much inequality exists. I would a position that allows me to help a society in any way so that I can promote social change and equality.
I study a STEM degree meaning I am very competent with numbers and calculations. I also participated in the 180DC Case Competition, where I calculated the annual ROI to design a new traffic management system, which I throughly enjoyed. My career goal is being a consultant to being adept with calculating values is essential and this role will prepare me for that career.
I can't wait to be a part of more fun events and meet more people in this society next year!
IDEA Society's ambitions — sending members on IDEAS Globally projects, running a quality pitch competition, hosting a careers fair — all cost money. The Treasurer's job isn't just tracking what we spend; it's making sure we have enough to be genuinely ambitious. That means proactive sponsorship outreach, smart budgeting, and full transparency with the committee.
I'd focus on three priorities. First, diversifying our funding beyond the SU grant — our EY Foundation affiliation and connections to consulting and finance firms are natural sponsorship opportunities that should be properly pursued. Second, creating a clear budget framework so every event and project has allocated funds and the committee can plan with confidence. Third, keeping finances transparent with regular updates so there are no surprises. I have a financial literacy foundation through Bloomberg's courses and experience fundraising for charitable causes, but more importantly, I understand that a well-funded society is an ambitious society. Members should never hear "we can't afford that" for things that genuinely matter.
Hi everyone, I’m Charlotte, and I’m standing to be your next Treasurer.
As an active committee member this year, I’ve seen how important strong financial planning is, particularly in sustaining and growing Headline’s operations. In high school, I managed finances for several social impact societies and secured multiple grants. I plan to bring that same proactive approach here: identifying funding opportunities, applying for grants, and building relationships with sponsors, foundations, and corporate partners to diversify our income.
If elected, I’ll focus on strengthening our funding base by developing sponsor and affiliate relationships, particularly with impact-focused firms aligned with our mission. I’ll also ensure our funds directly enhance the member experience, such as a guest speaker series, practical skills workshops, cross-society collaborations, and expanding our Hackathon.
With experience managing budgets and securing grants, I’ll prioritise clear communication about where our funds go and how they benefit you. I’m organised, proactive, and committed to making sure our finances create better opportunities for everyone. I’d really value your vote.
Hi! I'm Helen Meng from Population Health Sciences. I firmly believe I'll be a responsible and effective Treasurer of IDEAS society. Vote for me- I won't let you down!!
As Treasurer, I'll manage the society's finances clearly and effectively. That means tracking and reporting revenue and expenses monthly, processing reimbursements quickly, and making sure members get value from their membership by tracking the impact of events. I'll also handle budgeting for hackathons, socials, food, drinks, and marketing- and help identify the most impactful sponsorships we can pursue within our budget.
I've got the background to back this up. I was hugely involved in IDEAS by planning the Hackathon for HEADLINE as well as other events regarding the program. As VP of Med Access Network in high school, I managed budgets for hygiene workshops- splitting funds across locations, sponsorships, equipment, and printing, and tracking every dollar. I also had a US marketing internship where I negotiated MOQs and pricing with 100+ customers for an accessory manufacturer, so I'm comfortable with numbers and client relations. On top of that, I manage my own investment portfolio across ETFs and commodities, which has taught me how to research, track, and make informed financial decisions.
If elected, I'll be responsible, organized, and focused on making sure the team can flourish without worrying about finances- so we can keep delivering the best experience to our members.
