Mali Smith

Mixed hockey has been such an integral part of my first year. It’s one of the main reasons I’ve truly felt a sense of belonging within the club, having the privilege to play with different players and form connections across the club that I might not have otherwise made. It’s a space where everyone, regardless of skill or position, comes together to #bleedpurple. I’d be honored to step up next year and follow Ella’s footsteps in helping lead this squad to Victory (pt2.)

I’ve become quite the advocate for mixed because it’s where the pressure disappears and the fun takes over. It’s a must-do experience, whether you’re hanging (I personally wake up every Sunday feeling like I’ve been hit by a truck), running on zero sleep, or still struggling to score even outside a Wednesday (camel cough cough). Mixed is always a good laugh and a great way to make Sunday somewhat productive, or simply break up a long week of work.

Although I’ve had my fair share of Mixed Monstrosities—my favourite being the blackout on the tube after continuously forgetting to ack or the hockey stick to the face back in Term 1—I’d like to think these experiences demonstrate a few core qualities I could bring to the team.
