Hockey Club (Women's): 3XI Captain

Joining UCL WHC 3s has honestly been the best part of my time at uni so far, and being captain would be a way to give back to the team that made that happen. I’ve previously had a leadership position where I was the head lifeguard at my sixth form, organising rotas and leading training, so I’m used to responsibility, communication and keeping a group working smoothly and happily. I will admit I’m not the best outfield hockey player, but I properly found my place when I had to forfeit fresher goalie for our first match and then went on to stay as GK. Because of this I’ve had a full overview of nearly every match, learned a lot more about structure and technique, and have been supporting the girls on the pitch as they play, which somehow even got me Best 3s Fresher. As captain I’d bring together that leadership experience and keeper’s perspective to make the 3s a well‑bonded, inclusive and genuinely fun team (because the 3s are #thebestteam!). I’ll make sure everyone understands our game plans, encourage people to try new roles without fear of judgement, keep training and match day organisation clear and stress‑free, and create an environment where new and returning players feel welcome, get involved in socials, and look forward to Wednesdays as the highlight of their week for both hockey, pres, socials and scala!!
